somewhat related; i remember traveling home from vegas once and after the flight back was walking through the long term parking garage to my car and saw a small dead bird scorched to shit and death squaking on the ground. not exactly traumatizing but certainly unsettling . presume the birds nest inside dormant cars for shelter kind of like cats crawling up in shit

Yarp, cat thefts have seen a surge in most major cities. Some trucks have huge cats that cost $3000+ to replace, not counting the damage the thieves do when they sawzall it out.

Fun fact: It's illegal in the US to sell used catalytic converters to the public. They can not be legally reused and can only be recycled.

These are reported (mostly for insurance claims) thefts, the police cant do shit about it, so I doubt many people with high deductibles go through the trouble of making a report:

This is a view under my RV. That black thing on the left is a very sensitive, remote controlled motion sensor. If you wiggle the exhaust pipe any little bit you'll set it off and it's amazingly loud.
