I prefer the mid-western accent (or, otherwise known as, no accent at all). Southern people, and I'm saying this as a southerner, just sound stupid to me. Fun to fuck, but when I have to deal with them on the daily, just no thank you.

That is a Minnesota accent, mostly on the north half of the state even, and considered it's own thing. The Midwest is slightly larger than that.
The accent for most of the midwest is nothing like Minnesota and difficult to distinguish from the west, outside of various local word choices. A bunch of maps on GIS label it as the Midland accent.
