We write what we need on a dry erase board on the fridge as we run out. Then whoever is going shopping takes a picture of it and has the list. Works great.

We have a google doc that everyone in the family has access to. That way any time you think of something needed, you can add it to the list. Just delete things as you go while shopping. You don't need to go home to photograph the fridge first. So coming from work or whatever you can go straight to the store and have the list. First send a family text and let everyone know they have 20 minutes to put anything they need on the list. And voila, perfect.
