Because it's marketing and he did a great job hyping a DOA product?
Nobody heard of it until it failed... The trailers were competently done but never hit target audiences. That's marketing fail.

I mean, Corinne Busche, tranny dude developer for Dragon Age was hired at Wizards of the Coast Skull Key Studios recently. These big companies just dont fucking learn. Big companies would rather hire someone that does fucking terrible at their job, but "knows" the job... rather than give an opportunity to someone that actively wants to climb the ladder out of merit. I say companies, cause I've seen it happen in other industries too.

I personally, regardless of sexual or gender identity - wouldnt hire these people just based on the drama that follows them around. Why anyone would want that shit in their office is beyond me.

LawBreakers failed just as bad as Concord, despite having better gameplay, way more marketing, and great reviews.
But there was no discourse around that one...
Sometimes games just flop.

Because Lawbreakers didnt bring abso-fucking-lutely nothing new to the genre in fucking 2017. Nor did it have anywhere NEAR the budget that Concord had. If you thought this was some GOTCHA moment, then you're fucking retarded. The budget Concord had for marketing alone was massive. BUT ALL OF THIS IS BESIDES THE POINT. These people are failing UPWARD. Their alphabet bullshit puts the eye of sauron on them, sure. But no one gives a fuck about Kyle-in the tranny down in fucking coding. Nor does anyone here gaf about you role playing a girl on these forums.

How did they sell Sony so fucking hard on this game? And who was largely responsible for that? Marketing isn't just about adverts to end users. Maybe this guy wasn't responsible at all for how well funded and pushed this game was and if so, sure, failing upwards. Otherwise, and regardless of whatever politics are at play, if he was there for that and was marketing the game to Sony as director... seems like he's pretty good (and unscrupulous) at what he does?

Wizards of the Coast has not made a successful computer game, outside Magic the Gathering (which was just a 1:1 transfer of the physical card game to digital format(?)). Last I saw on the RPG side, they were trying to make some interactive UI that paired with DnD 5.0 tabletop; which was orders of magnitude worse than what modders could already do with BG3. That was before Larian released the mod tools.

So the dude went from ruining a game from one of EA's flagship skinsuits, to a new studio that has never released a game, which is possibly building on a vaporware project that Wizards has been trying to get off the ground for years. Otherwise they are building a new game from scratch. Even money that Hasbro shutters the studio before they can even release a game.

Sure, he should have been run out of the industry, but I wouldn't call it failing upward.

Yeah… Growing up with all the big leaps in generational visuals… now its all just varying degrees of 99 percentile… there is the big jump to “real” and that is not happening yet, we are just like 95…96!!…98!….ohh yeah so.

I enjoy reading the technicalities of all this stuff… but ehh

The only thing I remember resembling discourse around LawBreakers involves Cliff Bleszinski, shooting his brand in the foot by telling all of the console players who built him up through Gears of War, to go fuck themselves... and then went to backpedaling from denouncing PC gamers as "thieves" in the same interview.

As far as performance in the market, I think Lawbreakers died because Cliff Bleszinski in his near infinite arrogance declared this to be "My next billion dollar IP" then cut his core "FPS/shoot em' up" Xbox audience out (which he states he regrets doing), openly spat on them and failed to compete in the same space with Overwatch about a year too late. Combine that with announcing free to play being changed to a guaranteed buy in for an online only shooter did not inspire confidence in the gaming community.

TLDR; Fuck Cliff Bleszinski.

Edit:

I think Daidraco Daidraco put it well. "Because Lawbreakers didnt bring abso-fucking-lutely nothing new to the genre in fucking 2017"

This was a time when Arena style shooters could have made a huge comeback. DOOM 2016 having an absolutely pitiful attempt at Deathmatch, TDM, CTF, Control Point, was a missed opportunity for other studios to fill that vacuum.

Imagine early on it was promised as overwatch but better, and overwatch had such insane popularity at the time.

they could easily just do in-game product placement like movies do, and unless it affects the gameplay, I don't see a problem with it. Oh the vending machines have COKE, ok that's cool, it even adds a bit of realism to it. Fuck them for even considering forcing players to watch advertisements.

Ya i don't think anyone cares about product placement, which this won't affect. Good move by Valve.

Thats neat. yeah. I was just watching a retrospective, and came here to link it. wondering what thread would be best, or if I should start a thread for retrospectives. '

Majuular has been doing an ultima retrospective which is incredible. Today he just posted this one on Dark Cloud. A series I didn't play. in hindsight though, man would it have been something I would have loved I think. town building in a ps2 game?

some of its designs remind me of Vagrant Story. I HATED that. wonder if I have a working copy of it around somewhere still.. if I should give it another chance.
