Reading this thread I was surprised to hear that there are males out there that find McCarthy funny. She's trying to be the female Chris Farley now and failing miserably.
She's the only funny one. At risk of sounding dasracis, wasn't it confirmed some time ago Leslie Jones actually isn't a person but just a very loud gorilla?

Actually, she seemed one note chuckle worthy in the bit parts she got here and there. Seeing her in The Heat changed my opinion. She was pretty fucking funny in that movie. I actually liked her and Sarandon in Tammy, as well. I would equate her to being more of a female DeVito, when she is at her best.

Like Farley she's often done the same big-loud-idiot role in movies. Farley wasn't always funny in it either when it started feeling played out. I think she has more ability than given credit for or allowed to play just like Farley. So, yeah, she's pretty funny some of the time? I think with the right role, like The Heat, you see her a little more dynamically. I don't think this role is going to be like that at all, though. The original was more humorous than funny, which is perhaps a lost art at this point where so many movies are just joke-joke-pratfall-joke-joke-slapstick. I see her getting hit in the head and doing the 'ooooh ouch comedy!' bit a lot and having a hard time fitting in things due to her size. Kinda have to do that, though? I mean, I guess they could have asked Tina Fey to make a smart female comedy, but, uhh, she probably wanted nothing to do with the project if they even cared to ask. Because it doesn't have to be smart or good to sell a lot of merchandise.

I've personally always just wished they'd do a movie that focused on Slimer instead of fighting so hard trying to get the original cast or reboot a new cast.

I think Fey's career mostly tanked due to the string of bombs she put out the last couple years. She might end up going back to Television, actually. Because of Bridesmaids, everyone thinks Wiig is the new Fey, which is how you end up with an all female ghostbusters that has two offensive lineman in its main cast. What I am really waiting to see is who or what they cast in the Janine role. That will make for some truly awesome nerd rage.

They already announced Chris Hemsworth.

a movie from the perspective of the ghosts battling ghostbusters who are unseen could work really well. dont even need to call it ghostbusters, just Slimer and people would know its from ghostbusters and nothing gets raped and we can have a fun little comedy about all the world of ghosts trying to go about their business and these a-hole ghostbusters start fucking with them until a badass ghost named gozer comes along and unites the other ghosts to defeat the ghostbusters. gozer goes too far and by the end the mischievous ghosts ditch him and go into hiding, maybe taking a bath in some ooze over by the museum.

So who plays Sigorney Weaver's character? Because obviously they seem intent on carbon copying all the details of the original and rotating them, rather than come up with original ideas.

What I want to know if there's a gag in the film about a ghost leaving the toilet seat up or any one-liners involving menstruation ("it's the wrong time of the month to mess with the Ghostbusters", something like that). It would be incredibly easy to write a hack script for this where you xerox the original and insert miserable 1990s era female stand up everywhere and I'm pretty afraid that's what someone did.

Yeah that's pretty much all McCarthy and Wiig do. Your fears are grounded in reality. Did you see Bridesmaids? It was like 1 90 minute long menstruation joke. Plus I HEARD THEIR PERIODS ATTRACT BEARS

It's basically just going to be Bride Maids, or The Heat. It's the same writer. I don't think I laughed more then once in either of those films, they are pretty corny.

I would have gotten Evan Goldberg. He has the mentality for something like this " This is the end" was funny as fuck.

Not trying to defend this disaster but I recently saw spy and thought it was pretty great and I hated bridesmaids or The heat
