Good thing I just got Ghostbusters on Blu-Ray a couple weeks ago. Think I'm going to pop it in this weekend.

Parents that take their kids to see this instead of the original should be prosecuted.

I don't see the appeal. Those old enough to remember the first one won't like this one. Those who never saw the original will probably blow it off as a stupid movie top down.

Who is their target audience? Just people who will see every movie?
ultra feminists who want to prove that either

(1) womyn rule the world and should be the new target audience for everything if the movie is successful OR
(2) the patriarchy is destroying all chances of success for women if the movie does poorly

win / win either way!

Seems harsh to me. McCarthy and Wiig are funny. I don't really watch SNL so can't say anything about the other two. But as long as it's funny, I don't see the issue with gender swapping the main characters.

That said, I know I won't be shelling out the money to see this in theaters, but would definitely rent this.

Reading this just makes me miss the original more.

Guy waiting for elevator: What are supposed to be, exterminators?
Venkman: Yes someone saw a cockroach up on 12
Guy waiting for elevator: That must be some cockroach
Venkman: Bite your head off man

Fan cut of the trailer is pretty nice, actually injects some energy into the thing.

Im sure the movie will still be terrible though

No shine, no chrome, will not witness. (Seriously, that trailer looks...bad. Did the one chick start dual wielding against the ghosts? I mean, shit, maybe this will be a 21 Jump Street and be a lot better than the trailer indicates, but I'm for sure not going to see it unless it gets rave word of mouth. )
This should be our new Tuconots system. Seriously. Shiny + Chrome? WITNESSED! Not Shiny or Chrome? DIDN'T WITNESS

RE: The movie. First of all, the premise is completely unbelievable. Women scientists? Why don't they make amovie about a black swim team(!)? Or maybe a Polish mensa meeting? Or an Irish alcoholics anonymous meeting?

Worst of all though, it's just not funny. Chicks in general aren't very funny, Bridesmaids is the exception that proves the rule. Name five more comedies with women leads that are actually funny. If you can't, don't blame it on the patriarchy, blame it on studios knowing chicks aren't funny and not wanting to lose money. In fact it reminds me of that pic someone posted a while back of all the women who have contributed something significant to science, well... ever, and then the same thing with all the men who have done so. It's like 50 vs 5000. You could do the same graphic with comedies.

In short, chicks fail at science and comedy. This movie has both as its selling points. WILL NOT WITNESS

A lot of people are missing the point. The gender swap isn't the issue. Well, it's not for most.

The original ghostbusters worked well for a shit ton of reasons; the writing, the actors, the fact that the roles and movie were written FOR those actors. (Admitted rewrites and character replacements though.)

It's sort of asinine to think that you can make ghostbusters work by just putting any four dingos into the roles and calling it that. The only reason the gender shit gets mentioned, is because when people were super angry about a new ghostbusters, the cast/crew/director all made it out to be this big misogyny thing. Like, if we didn't like the ghostbusters that MUST be the reason. And then they made big appearances, like this.Girl Power

I'm sure there are plenty of people who are angry about it just being gender swapped, but it's not that they're females. It's that they're ANYONE ELSE but the originals.

Reboots happen. Remakes happen. I get all of that. Ghostbusters is a little higher on my blip meter because I was obsessed as a kid. And really, when you look at the movie, it's not a hard reboot. It's a remake; you can basically see the roles the guys played all those years ago in the women. So really, all it feels like is a movie created to make a social stance about WOMEN CAN DO IT LIKE THE GUYS CAN. Don't do that to my movies, man.

And those aren't the only reasons. The movie doesn't look good in general; were it bridesmaids 2 it would still be trash. I don't understand why she's licking her proton gun but hey whatever floats your boat.

Also, the plot doesn't even sound original. It sounds pretty close to the ghostbusters video game, at least from the quotes. (With things amplifying paranormal activity.)

Add to that maybe the biggest god damn atrocity of the whole thing: The fact that as a reboot, the old ghostbusters never existed. Poof. They could have done it a bunch of different ways with women. Maybe they're the daughters of the old ghostbusters, carrying on the family tradition. Maybe not even that, maybe they just need to take up the mantle and they're the best scientists so it HAS to be them.

Making them women, putting them into eerily similar roles as the original, (You've got the black character, (Jones) the witty one liner, (McKinnon) the one who does the occult shit, (McCarthy) and the one who looks like they'd sleep with the tub of ooze, (Wiig) and then not even hearkening back to the originals, god damn that is some balls.

I want this shit to end careers, so when the douchebags remaking Labyrinth see it, they'll start burning scripts.

Yes, my jimmies are amazingly rustled.

Ghstbusters is a very strong franchise that likely didn't go as far as it should have because of the costs of cast salary for more squeals.

Now 30 years later they relaunch with a deliberately gender politics based cast.

Surprise the fan base is not amused.

it was a strong franchise, but ghostbusters 2's poor reception and whatever was up bill murrays butt over starring in it, ended all that. they could have come back for one more had murray been on board. i dont even mind a reboot. a GOOD reboot, but a shot for shot remake isnt the way to go. it never is. it just reminds people how well done the original was.

strike that, there is one exception. the rermake of Dawn of The Dead was excellent.

No reason you can't reboot a franchise with a sequel. It would frankly be a lot more entertaining with new stories.

Or a remake-ish sequel reboot *cough*the force awakens*cough*

The CGI is colorful but everything else about this trailer is atrocious. The fan-cut trailer is a thousand times better.

The fan cut trailer ALMOST makes me want to see it in theaters. But then you realize the trailer cut all the dialogue and comedic bits and you gotta realize the movie is gonna be 90% that and your enthusiasm goes to hell.

The problem is the more they invoke the original Ghostbusters, the more they remind people how far the "reboot" is from that. People really shouldn't have had to ask the question of whether or not this was a sequel or a reboot after watching the trailer. They try too hard to simultaneously be a reboot while relying too heavily on people's nostalgia, which just makes it look like the only real significant difference is that this is women and that just looks like a lazy gimmick.

It's going to be really ironic when this movie bombs and studios take all that "girl power" stuff as evidence that audiences don't want female-centric comedies - instead of that audiences don't want shitty reboots that try to capitalize on nostalgia but can't deliver beyond being derivative.

You guys REALLY think this movie is going to 'bomb'? I'm guessing it makes a nice profit but doesn't make 500 million or anything.
