Didn't the preview for the next episode show Jon telling Melisandre not to bring him back again if he dies? I agree he definitely has a fear of death now, so... does not compute. Guessing some shit writer thought it would be a clever line of dialogue or something.

Berric Dondarrion did mention that every time he's brought back, pieces of him are missing. Literally and figuratively. He's missing an eye, and apparently he can no longer remember anything prior to being sent to the Riverlands to capture the Mountain. Jon has likely sensed that being the case with himself, and doesn't want to be continually brought back, each time a little bit less himself.

As opposed to death/nonexistence. Lose a bit of yourself or all of yourself. Doesn't seem like much of a difficult choice there

They have pointed out that Jon is now scared about death, when they asked him about what he saw while he was dead and he said there was Nothing, he's actually freaked out about it. You can tell he is emotionally messed up from it all
In the preview for next week, they showed him telling the Red Priestess to not bring him back if he falls. He may be emotionally affected at having seen nothing when he died, but clearly he isn't that afraid of it if he's willing to not come back.

A bit cliche, But I find it hard to believe the houndmaster will not get ripped to shreds by Ghost. Jon and Ramsey won't fight. Ramsey and the direwolf will.

Which also leads into, "lets write better endings"
Rickons wolf shaggydog is also not dead. And, Ramsey foolishly tries to break him in as another dog. Fails utterly, when Shaggydog kills him, possibly directly at Rickons command, after Ramsey THINKS hes broken him, and is showing him off to Rickon to mock him..

lol did you just not read the last 4 posts?
I did actually post a response to earlier before reading below. Still all mostly conjecture other than Jon stating he didn't see/remember anything from after he died and our clip from the preview of him asking Melisandre not to bring him back if he dies again.

Personally I think it's less a fear of death and more just a feeling that he "failed" before he was killed originally. He did all that work and all it got him was betrayed and murdered.

He seemed pretty terrified when he first answered Melisandre about experiencing no afterlife. It just seems like shit writing to have him say that line when he clearly has things to live for, otherwise why not just go ahead and kill yourself? I'd say the "don't rez me" is just a shit line someone threw in the script as opposed to Jon having no concern for death, having experienced it.

Can buy it. Did anyone ever ask Beric what he has seen? I can't remember. I still think he feels like getting killed was him failing, and he hasn't come to terms with that, more so than being afraid of death. If he was afraid of it, it wouldn't make much sense to be leading an undermanned army to try and reclaim Winterfell.

To further back up the shit writing assumption, they probably don't want us thinking about the fact that A.) Jon isn't go to die again, or if he does it will be at the end, and B.) If he did, Mel could just res him over and over like Beric. This removes the tension from any fight Jon experiences. "Let's have Jon say this stupid line so the viewers are worried about him dying again!" "So smart."

In the preview for the next episode Jon tells Mel, "If I fall... don't bring me back."

Obviously he is not scared of death. He just feels like he has lost his purpose and is down on himself ATM.

There's also zero chance he dies again this season. That would be worse writing than anything they've done, including Dorne.

Jon dying would definitely be awful writing, I'm hoping for a Sansa death in episode 9. Her death is one that could really shake things up. Jon would plead to have Sansa revived only for the lady to tell her she can't because shes not chosen or for whatever reason, this would hopefully light a new fire under Jon to be a badass again. Brienne would have failed to fulfill her oath and she'd be free to go do something else. Littlefinger would lose his 'milkshake' and then they could go back to making his character to interesting things that make sense (granted with 10 minutes of screentime this season nobody cares about LF anymore).

It's just a good guy, hero, martyr trope. Not worth getting worked up over.

I don't know what purpose Sansa is even serving anymore. Its clear no one gives no fucks about her gay ass traitor's name.

Nah he already did his hero's sacrifice, albeit unwillingly. It's just crap writing to build artificial tension among viewers and I'm getting worked up over everything this season, so this is no exception.
