you mean you still clicked on those links which contradict each other and i said they were clickbait?
Well the first one is complete fiction if you bothered to read any of the fake dialogue like D&D saying they don't give a shit about the books.

The second one is legit commentary from an actual dinner with GRRM. It's not clickbait at all.

I think in this case it might be a distinction without a difference. Books 4 and 5 were padded to ridiculous levels. I think Aegon was to give all these characters some motivation, to pass the time. I don't think any of it was necessary, which is why I call it filler but I guess you can call it a minor character if you want.

Either way, very clear he wasn't going to take over and suddenly Daenery's entire arc would have been pointless.
It still has the potential to complicate things for her. Depending on how things unfold with him, she could potentially have to either marry Aegon or kick his ass.

I'm curious if he played a part during the original 5 year time skip planned, or if he was thrown in. You could be right and he ends up being completely insignificant, but I never thought that originally. I figured he had a role to play in Dany's arc.

Isnt quentyn, dany, viserys, young aegon all part of the same plot by varys, yllerio and doran to put a targ back on the iron throne? I dont see any of them as filler as they are all part of the same overarching storyline. Might as well call dany filler too

I kinda like that "After the Thrones" show on HBO. They really just picked 3 nerds to talk about the show and resisted the urge to put a comedian or something on there so good on them for that. I also noticed that they had aDragon Egg Cookie Jarin the background. I think I need one of those.

What I would like to find would be some gas fireplace logs made to look like the eggs.... was researching how to make some at one point.

Yeah, except for the part where Dany was in all the books and Aegon wasn't even mentioned until he showed up out of the blue in book 5.
Except that is kind of what Varys and Illyrio originally had in mind. They expected Dany to die amongst the horse lords and intended to keep Viserys in Pentos. Close enough for Robert to know he exists and feel a certain level of threat, but far enough removed that Varys can keep him alive.

not caught up on comments, apologies if this has been brought up already:

Varys' mission is to Dorne. it wraps up the shit dorne plotlines of the last 2 seasons and gives them a purpose, steers them back towards their book story, without dedicating any real screen time to them. It won't take more than 30 seconds of screen time of him meeting with Ellaria & co. "oh girl power, you know I don't even have a dick, so we on the same team. You know who else is all girl power? who also wants revenge on the lannisters? My girl Dany. Oh she got armies, and did I mention dragons? hundreds of thousands of followers? She on her way girl, you wanna get down on this or what? ok go ahead and get your armies ready, we coming girl"

It would certainly make more sense than Aegon being introduced. And make use of the shitty Dorne storyline.

Yea this pretty much HAS to happen now. And would make me feel much better about the entire Dorne thing if they were simply setting up a fem finale.

I think Euron is going to be the final human Big Bad we have until the WW take their spot as the One True Big Bad of the series. They don't have the time to build up the Aegon thing reasonably. But I suppose that COULD be what Varys' secret mission actually is. But I am pretty confident he is returning to Westeros to destabilize the realm. Whether or not that includes Aegon we shall see.

Anything else might fuck up their pace f they only have 15 episodes left total after this season.
Euron will invade the north looking for tree's just in time to block the whitewalker invasion long enough for all the other armies to flee south.

if this was the book then yeah, thats a good theory. but they're doing some weird shit on the show. varys showed up after dany skipped town and then he skipped town the day she returns. is he afraid dany finds out he sent people to kill her?

Speaking of minor and filler characters.... Has anybody updated the "Boat of forgotten characters"? How many would it be up to now?

For an episode 8, that was pretty anti-climatic.. maybe they are trying to get away from ep8 being the 'BIG EPISODE!!' that it's been each season, but it feels a little late to do that. I think the producers thought arya's story was more epic then it actually was, or came across as. Sure, Arya coming back is cool, but not nearly epic enough to be the pinnacle point of the season. Dany using the dragon to roast the entire fleet of Masters' ships might have helped, but even that doesn't seem as good as Red Wedding, Ice skeletons invade hardhome, etc.. we got in previous seasons.
I was expecting something crazy to happen with Winterfell, White Walkers, or Dragons in this episode.

It was interesting to see that the Brothers without Banners are aware of the White Walkers in the north and are heading that way now. I think we are going to have an 'oh shit..' moment in the north soon where the rest of the world finds out they are real.. like, for realz real. Maybe Sam's father and his army come to get his sword back, at the same time that the Brothers and Tully army all show up in the north for various reasons and see the white walker army breech the Wall. That many people witnessing it will lend more credibility to the claim instead of everyone dismissing it as rumors of crazy people.

I think the rest of the show is going to be the North coming together to fight the Walkers (after rallying under Jon and Sansa to take back Winterfell) and then Dany comes over to wreck shit in the South, but puts that on hold when she hears about the Walker problem in the north and marches her army (of desert people and Dragons, i.e. 'Fire' army) straight there to help. \

Also, Varys' secret mission is to go bribe the leader/controller of the stone men to fight for them, so we get Ice and Fire zombies fighting each other.

With the exception of Hardholme, episode nine has usually been much more climactic. That was Ned's death, blackwater bay fight, red wedding, and the wildlings' attack on the wall.

Oh was it? Well fml, why did I have it in my head it was ep8. Ok, then hopefully this next one is something interesting cause that episode was mostly boring to me.

If the next one is a flop the series is done, tbh. I mean they'll finish it, it'll go 8 seasons. But if they can't nail their big episode of the season there isn't much reason to watch anymore. The story has gotten really bad.

It's the assault on winterfell. It's their big GET HYPE episode of the season.

Blackwater was good, Hardhome was great, the assault on the wall was good. They've all been memorable. The only big episode that was sort of shitty was Ned getting his head chopped off -- and that's season 1, and it's fine really. It just wasn't the big armies fighting sort of big episode.

So when Cersi wildfires kings landing, this dude gonna roll up and claim the crown? Or does he make a 5 second quick shot in the final episode for the season?
gendry-still-rowing-game-of-thrones.gif

GRRM added these random fucks for a reason. Aegon will show up in the show, otherwise if he doesn't then it will just confirm he's a non factor in the books. They are set on putting major plot lines from the books, more than the holding back and cutting major stuff out. Ya I know Stoneheart isn't in the show, but that's just filler in the book.

She knows Varys sent assassins after her, it's one of the things she talked with Tyrion about when he finally got to Meereen. I grant that it's possible he's trying to play it safe, not knowing how forgiving she might be.

As for Varys going to Dorne, god I hope not. The single best thing the show could do to tie up the Dorne plotline is to pretend Dorne just vanished from Westeros and nobody noticed.
