Also: Balrogs and Gandalf were both level 16, but Gandalf was rolling at a -3 because of being shackled in a mortal form.

Oh man 2 days worth of shit posting and Araysar making a fool of himself were lost. Oh wait someone saved it:
Recap from Monday's lost data:

The Dragons are not deus ex machina
The White Walkers pulling magic out of their ass to counter the dragons are deus ex machina
Everyone hopes that the White Walkers pull some Deux Ex Machina out of their ass or it's going to be a very anti-climatic ending
Araysar doesn't know what deus ex machina means
Corrected your post for you, your welcome.

Oh also there was 2 days of autists debating the relative power levels of various LOTR deities, forgot about that too.

Let's kickstart that debate off and tie it back to the one where Araysar embarrassed himself by admitting he didn't know what Deus Ex Machina is.

The term means "God from the Machine"
It was originally used to describe the very common method of shitty play writers resolving issues in their plays in ancient greece. During the 3rd act when shit was all FUBAR, they would use a series of ropes and pulleys (the machine) to lower an actor on to the stage dressed as Zeus or Poseidon or whatever deity had particular influence over whatever the circumstances happened to be for that play, the god would wave his magic wand and fix or correct whatever blunder the protagonists found themselves in, and the play would end.

it's shitty fucking writing that leads to relying on this sort of thing.

Tolkien, who you faggots spent 2 days circle jerking over ad nauseum, was one of these shitty fucking writers who pulled Deus Ex Machina out of his ass constantly in his works because he wrote himself into corners constantly. World building? crafting of lore? The man was a legend. The pioneer of the fantasy genre, certainly. But actual story telling? That faggot was terrible at it.

A famous example from LOTR, of which there are tons of, are the eagles which save Sam and faggo at the end. Bitches come out of nowhere and pull their asses off the volcano. The introduction of Deus Ex Machina like this usually adds more plot holes than it resolves, such as, "If they had these fucking eagles available why the fuck did these motherfuckers spend 3 movies walking?" Then you need some nerd to tune their cognitive dissonance and retcon skills up to 11 to explain away the blunder, usually opening up even more plot holes with their explanation than they resolve, and the cycle continues.

Now to circle back around to GOT:

If GRRM had never written a single chapter from Dany's point of view, if we had never been introduced to her or knew about her story or life in essos, if we got to the final battle having only ever known about the houses and conflicts of the seven kingdoms, and had the last vestiges of humanity been facing down the unstoppable horde of the Night King, and then, and only then, when all hope is lost and humanity is in it's final hours, had some unknown lost targaryan queen arrived with an army of several hundred thousand soldiers and 3 full grown dragons who stroll up and save the day, wiping out the enemy army in a matter of minutes, then and only then would the dragons be an example of Deus Ex Machina.

Jon Snow finding a ring that made him immune to White Walkers and control the dragons simultaneously would be a Deus Ex Machina.

God... FUCK.

That's exactly how this shit is going to end, isn't it? She takes control of a kingdom of ashes, laughing maniacally with Tyrion's decapitated head in her lap. God damnit

That would actually be the ending to end all endings. The final episode is nothing but her sitting on the iron throne recalling to her new captain of the king's guard (Bronn) every character she directly or indirectly killed (with accompanying flashback scenes) on her path to the throne. Fade to black. Roll credits.

Recap from Monday's lost data:

If the Dragons win it's bullshit
If the White Walkers win it's bullshit
The Dragons may or may not be deus ex machina
The White Walkers are not deus ex machina
No one can agree about deus ex machina, it's definition, or affiliates.
Also astr0 still gonna astro and a new Woolygimp appears.

Would she not hate Bronn for helping Tyrion out originally? Feel like she'll grab some no-name fuckhead to be the captain for political reasons (probably another cousin she likes to fuck when Jaime wasn't around), since she's got the zombie Mountain as her personal bodyguard anyway.

I didn't read any of this thread early this week but it sounds like those hard drives may have self-immolated in protest of the nonsense that they were being forced to store.

Sit down, I'll go get my whiteboard, and I'll live stream a recap lecture on the inner politics of the Valar and Maiar and how that translates to the relative strength of each Maiar so we can evaluate Gandalf vs Durin's Bane with full context. You're in for a treat.
