Fuck, I hate to be "that guy" but I kind of think that episode was fucking retarded. Banter was cool and Tormund survival was great. Everything else was really cringy. I'm willing to suspend disbelief for some good action, but all the north of the wall shit was so so bad. Everything felt forced, starting with the initial premise. Forget the teleporting, How the fuck did the lake even start to crack? Why did it suddenly really freeze over?

Also can't stand new tryhard Arya. She better be counter-playing LF.
could be because they were so close to the wall the lake wasnt as cold and maybe it was really deep and so the warmer water kept it from freezing good. either way when NK and crew shows up it starts to get much colder and so it was more frozen later than it started. but yeah, was one of many silly things you are expected to overlook this season. just throw it on top of the pile.

Hardly that guy. It had lots of good and lots of bad and lots to be critical of but right now most people are in aftersex, meaning they feel good and happy. It isn't until they wake up tomorrow they will look back and be like that face she made during sex made her look like Gollum and shit.

As for the lake, before the WWs show up the sky is clearish and the temps not so cold. Yes it is obviously below freezing and has been for thousands of years, so one has to wonder why it wasn't frozen solid to begin with. As for assuming it wasn't and only had started to just ice over for whatever plot reason, the ice would have taken a day or two to regain the 4-6 inches it appeared to be frozen when Hound smashes it, which would be fine given the time they sat on the rock. The real question goes back to why wasn't it already hard frozen before that given the whole place has been a iced over wasteland for I assume thousands of years.

I was less bothered by the telelorting this episode than the fact the WW's left the lake to hit Home Depot apparently for huge chains.

Teleporting wasn't an issue as it appears the whole episode took place over a 3-5 day period + however long Jon slept when on the boat headed back to KL. The only questions are how long did it take a raven to fly 1600-2000 miles and for Dany to fly back. I would assume 50-100mph each way which is a long ass time for Dany to be crumbled up on a bunch of spines. She really needs a damn mount made. She gonna get thrombosis and a clot.

no doubt along with a +50 to fire resistance, her racial abilities also include to +100 to thrombosis resistance.

Not as much whinging as I expected for this episode.

Watching replay and Tormund just killing it "Moving is good, fighting is better, fucking is best..." Jon like "there isn't a woman within a hundred miles of us" Tormund "You have to make do with what you have"

I don't follow this thread religiously, but when I checked in last week lots of people seemed to be bitching about how ridiculously fast traveling around the world had become. All I could think about while watching this week's episode was those same people's heads exploding :p

That is because over 50% of the episode was watching a small group of men sitting on a rock. We have next week to look forward to. Keg I think it was, may god rest his soul until his return and I discussed how these warping portals only seem to work 1 episode then need several to recharge.

on the plus side they at least settled the internet rumors about the third dragon rider after jon and daeny. non book readers will never know about the secret targs.

Oh yeah had something of an autistic epiphany while skimming through the leaked episode again.

I'm beginning to warm to that crackpot theory that the Night King actually is future Bran who got stuck in the past when he was turned into the Night King. I mean he clearly has powers beyond controlling the horde of wights, so I'm thinking if he really wanted to he could have killed them while they were waiting for rescue, instead of waiting for the ice to freeze back over. What was actually going on is that the Night King was also waiting for Danaerys, because he knew she was coming, because Bran learned the story of the rescue from Jon before he became the Night King, so he knew that by waiting he'd get to add an undead dragon to his army. This would also explain why his army was carrying around three massive chains that couldn't serve any purpose in the frozen wastes of the north aside from pulling the body of a dragon out of a lake.

Of course now that I've said that, I've basically guaranteed that the chains will somehow be involved in tearing down the wall.
Or the Night King has old gods/weirnet abilities similar to Bran. There is no reason as yet to conclude he is not some sort of antithesis to the three eyed crow.

We simply do not know what his motives are, what role they play in the old gods mythos, wood elves, three eyed crow and so on. But I thought it too; night king seemed to be waiting. He may have known of the dragons all along.

I feel like this was settled with how long and drawn out the Jon stuff is. I mean, yes, we found out who his parents were last season, and yes...we PROBABLY figured out he's a legit Targ and not a bastard (though we don't know 100% for sure b/c Sam got all triggered by his sad days and silenced Gilly)...but at this point it would be a little late in the game to build up yet another reveal that Tyrion was a secret Targ or something.

they were waiting for the ice to refreeze, when Hound threw the rock and it slid across the ice instead of punching a hole in it. it caused the Ice Bone Skeleton to advance and then the others joined in. fucking deja vu.

Dragons were around up until about 120 years was it before these came about. The NK was sleeping/hiding over 8000. No reason yet to think he was waiting on his dragon chance. It just simply presented itself.

The reason he was waiting is he knew as did Benjen that they cannot pass the wall due to the magic. Doesn't explain how they can carry them across it though. That is twice one was brought through the wall intact. So if the prevention is only mental on something with no brains, it makes it even more confusing. It is obviously not destructive in nature.

the show seemed to be at least hinting at it. with the way the dragons were non aggressive to him. either way, i'm glad its over. no more aegon raping joanna and tywin hating tyrion for it.

One thing I want to know is, when they were freezing on the rock for a day or two, why didnt the Beric or Thoros fire up their flaming swords and gather around to keep themselves warm.
