The most surprising thing I learned from this last episode is Brando is not retarded all of the time.

So people get real mad when you tell them that the show has turned into spectacle and that the writing is halfassed at best since season 6. Still need King Euron to redeem this shit.
He won't. They've failed to include almost anything from the books that makes him interesting and they failed to cast Mads.

I know this is just a shitpost, but she's very much the anti-Mary Sue given the 4 million episodes where we are treated to Arya regularly getting beaten to shit, kidnapped, blinded, brutally trained by the Faceless Men so she can be counted among the most elite association of murderers on the planet, along with many more wholesome moments. As clunky as the scene was, she deserved getting the killshot at least as much as anyone else.

yeah, shes not. Shes just an author favorite/pet. she wasn't created by a fan, or different author. She was always there, and a main character. She just got many undeserved promotions.
then the really poorly shot scene, made the ending silly. Conceptionaly the idea of Ayra killing him isn't awful. it was the execution that was bad.

she isnt a Rey marysue, Arya actually had years of training from different mentors. Rey had no training and first time clowns the top apprentice of Luke Skywalker. huge difference there. that being said, i think people are just pissed Jon didnt get any kind of fight scene with NK and there was a huge buildup ever since Hardholme, ditto with Bran just jacking it to porn while the world falls apart around him. special mention to fatass who let everyone die to save his own ass.

Battle of the Bastards is a top 5 moment of the entire series. Change my mind.

I can live with it, but I think it means Arya won't get Cersei, which was the one person on the list I really wanted Arya to kill. Now iIf they let Arya kill anyone else important, the last season becomes Arya Kills Them All.

Daenerys still has to live up to the actress' Vanity Fair quote, “It f*cked me up,” she said of her last moment on the show, in no way revealing whether she makes it all the way to the Season 8 finale or not. “Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is ...."

What does she do, stab a pregnant Cersei in the belly?

Apologies if it's already been mentioned since I'm not going to check up on the whole thread, but what about the whole Azor Ahai prophecy? Weren't they foreshadowing that all along (in the books at least)? Jon takes up Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes reforged and defeats the Great Other and Long Night, the end. Something that would have led to that situation would have been better than Arya out of nowhere at the last minute IMO. Maybe that doesn't 'subvert the genre' enough or whatever these hacks think is good these days? Feh

Other than that, I don't see how the battle against the creeping undead doesn't take precedence over political maneuvering. The medieval crusaders discontinued warring amongst themselves to take on the outside threat of muslim invaders. Wouldn't it make sense for Dany and Jon to consolidate their power by wrecking Cersei and confirm they have an army coming with them before focusing on the final threat of the NK? Ah fuck it I guess. It would be nice if this wasn't just another 'turn your brain off and enjoy it' series/movie -like this one used to be- but I guess that's just all we can expect these days.

Have Weiss or Benioff ever confirmed what GRRM told them aside from generalities?
I mean GRRM can just retool his books to whatever he wants no matter what he told them. So I guess taking forever to write these novels is a plus?

azor ahai was changed a few seasons ago when a Red Priestess said Dany was the prince who was promised. if she can be azor, then anyone could be.

Again. Azor Ahai, Prince that was Promised, Bran's powers, Howland Reed, the Citadel, Dragonglass, Valyrian Steel, Ghost, White Walkers, etc etc. Basically anything to do with fantasy you just have to wait for the books as that's not what the show is seemingly about anymore.

Ugh;

That was one unholy mess. Entertaining, yes, but high quality GOT? Nope-- the show really has been sliding downhill since season 4 and I was really hoping that they would pull together some writing smarts for this final (short) season 8. That last episode was a disaster. I'm so glad I pay $300 a month for cable so I can watch a black screen in HD for 60 minutes of an 82-minute show.

I don't know where to start; I can BARELY cover the entirety of dumbness! Whether it was the stupidity of the battle tactics, to the multiple rip-off scenes from other movies (including "How to Train Your Dragon" and "World War Z" and many more) to the residual "buddy" motiff from the last episode. God-forbid any of the characters that we give a shit about be sacrificed (GRRM would, and does!). Also, the characters changing their demeanor half way through the episode (Sam back to coward, Arya to coward and back, Clagane to coward again, Jon Snow to worthless imbecile, Theon to "good man?" seriously WTF? Whose characters were these?)

My biggest beef was the stupid interior scenes in the castle where Anya was hiding amid huge, empty rooms. Didn't masses of surviving troops retreat into the castle? Isn't there need for space for an infirmary? Aren't other people hiding too? Where are the zombie hordes? Where did all that empty space come from? Why did Sansa need to be in the crypt-- looked pretty safe right in the middle of the castle to me.

Lastly the white walkers are the most inconsistent fighting force. At times, slow and bumbling, at times limber and running (often en masse), sometimes strategic, sometimes massively strong (they can break through stone crypts like tissue paper), never anything other than a foil for lazy writers.

What a terrible, stupid, blurried farce that was!

PS- Fuck you Sam. Fuck you Bran. Fuck you Sansa. Fuck you Theon...

That's true though he's had the end book in his head for over 20 years now so I doubt he doesn't have it pretty well mapped out. It's books 3-6 that he added and without completely derailing something that should be in the book thread he should have stuck to his original plan in hindsight. With that said it's one thing to read a plan and another to tell it so again I could see him giving some broad strokes with no real details.
