Well yeah, the materials are obviously special and so is the process to manufacture them.
I'm assuming they take dragon fire to create which is why no new valeryian steel has been created. I also have a feeling Gendry will be involved somehow. Blacksmith with the Power of kings blood + dragons fire or something.

I always get myself in trouble when i do this, but isnt robert and all his progeny considered usurpers because they do NOT have the royal dragon blood and had no right to take the throne?

Nope.

The Baratheon family was founded shortly after the Targaryan invasion, "Baratheon" was the cousin or whatever of the first Targaryan King and due to his heroism in taking the Stormlands was granted right's to found his own family there as rulers.

This is why Robert was chosen as the one to be king after the Rebellion, as he was the only one with clear blood-ties to the Targaryan's, in spite of Jon or even perhaps, Ned being potentially better candidates for the job, Robert was the only one with proper ties to make the more traditional people feel better about the whole thing.

Didn't Rhaegar have a Valyrian Steel blade? Did that help vs Robet's giant lump of regular steel?

I believe so? There was an ancestral one for the Targs, though it may have ended up in the alternate bastard family of them, Blackfire I think.

Then again he was fighting a guy who was wielding a giant 2-handed hammer in one hand, so not like he fell to some scrub.

Not proper, just closest. Eddard and most of the other high lords had claim as well due to the intermarriages of all the houses, but Robert's claim was the strongest (through an aunt, if I remember right). At the end of the day it was still a rebellion, but Robert taking the throne was closest to "legal". Keep in mind, it might be called Robert's Rebellion now but it was the Starks who were at the center of it all.

The Valyrian weapons in the books are described as lighter than the usual weapons but not overly so. If they were plastic or aluminum kind of light, their weightlessness would have been more emphasized I feel. The way I've been looking at them, the spells cast during the forging makes these weapons ridiculously hard and strong without the usual brittleness associated with hard steel. As a result, they can be made thinner, hence lighter, which makes them also sharper and their hardness also gives them this ability to keep their keen edge for a long time. Besides their ability to kill White Walkers, that way to consider them has been fitting with what has been described in the books so far.

Keep in mind we're dealing with a time where castle forged weapons (superior raw steel, forge with better controlled heat and superior craftsman) are considered to be the shit and clearly superior to what the usual blacksmith can make. So a product clearly a step above that should have no problem to reach legendary status, especially how rare these weapons are.

Stark and soon the Baratheons and Tullys started the war everyone wanted, and the people who either stayed loyal to the Targaryans (Tyrells) or switched sides at the last minute (Lannisters) or didn't commit until victory seemed likely (Freys) are now the ones reaping the rewards while the houses that took all the risks and did the most to win the war are all but wiped out. That's gratitude for you.

Fucking Martin.

You could say that Arryn/Stark/Baratheon/Tully started the war by starting intra great houses marriage alliances, before then the great houses would either marry into their bannermen or into the royal family.

Who the fuck pays $80? If you're paying the literal retail price you're doing it wrong. At most they'll jump up to $50 when they aren't on sale. $30 is the normal first week price for the show.

Nice of them to lower the price the day after they shipped the pre-orders :p. I still just paid $34.99 but that is kind of cheesy of them to punish you for pre-ordering.

Amazon priced matched Target which has them for $30. I bet if you contact Amazon CS they'll credit you $5.

huh, thats not what I pictured cold hands looking like, interesting. I think its definitely him though and not a random white walker, since the horse is alive

can't fucking wait, only real important decision right now is when to rewatch the entire series and whether to reread the books or not. probably rewatch starting in mid march, and reread after season 4
