Preview for next week showed Arya, Tyrion, Dany, and Jon. I have a feeling Dany will be short...kid bones+her locking up the dragons. Arya will be quick as well...maybe 5-7 minutes tops. My gut feeling is the majority will be Jon/Stannisdalf rescuing them and Tyrion's re-enactment of Charles Bronson's 'Death Wish'.

Yeah I don't get how any part of that episode could be disappointing.

Other than the fact we now have no chances of seeing Rose Leslie get naked again.

I also am a little disappointed the night didn't end with Stannis the Mannis flanking the wildlings.

Yeah that was amazing.
Honestly, they should have just done that more. Have a bunch of giant archers out of range of the regular Night's Watch archers. You basically use them like artillery and soften up the wall defense. Then you move in with the heavy duty crap to breech the gates.

Yeah the strategy for the wildlings was pretty shit. I don't know why every able bodied man didn't run with the mammoth and grab a hold of a rope and pull that shit down. That was their only chance to get through. Trying to climb the wall was pretty lulzy.

If you're going to climb the wall, climb it 1km east and west of where the main force is attacking and then flank them on the wall.

Didn't feel much love for the episode, wasn't bad or anything but didn't really blow me away. Everything shot in the dark kinda sucks, spend a lot of time going "wait... who is that???" just as they die. An entire episode on the wall sounds like a great idea on paper but in execution it turns out the Wall is a pretty shitty location and not terribly interesting. I really liked the character of Ygritte but her death felt anti climatic and weak.

no Mance / King of giants and no Stannis the Mannis really sucked, I don't really wanna see another 15 minute "oh man they are totally pwning us!" scene but can't avoid it now.

Does Jon Snow go ride out to Mance in the books? I thought the fight was 1 night, and as I recall the tunnel was just stacked and stacked and stacked with dead bodies.

They don't know that that's their "main force" though, they think the whole wall is manned, that's why they went out and killed the deserting crows so they wouldn't spill the beans on their lack of numbers.

And they were just testing defenses, you never throw your whole force out there right away. Meanwhile they got to see pretty much all The walls defences.

That scythe was pretty badass.

That was way better than the last big battle. Holy fuck those Giants were boss.

Although I have to think some of the walls defensives were pretty weak. Why wouldn't they fortify the top so no climbers could get up there, and why didn't they rig the tunnel to explode if they were going to lose everything.

The other thing is why didn't John take his wolf with him when he left the gate...

And LOL, at G Martin killing another key character. That guy is the biggest troll ever.

Also remember what Jon said back a couple seasons they are not a well trained fighting force. Mance is a bad ass but I don't remember anyone saying anything about him being a tactical genius.

Wildlings are tribal savages basically. There is a lot of them and one on one can fight but they are not a disciplined army.

They don't have to fit it all into the finale. They could save some for next season. They didn't even show Stannis in the next week previews, did they? I thought the episode was solid.
I'd imagine they'd want Stannis to be a surprise and wouldn't show him in the previews.

Put me in the camp that enjoyed the episode. Would've been nice to see the fight with the giant, but otherwise I thought it was solid. Plenty of death and Jon's not acting like a little bitch anymore. The giant arrow and the anchor were both awesome.

You guys are all too fucking jaded.
I thought it was an epic episode. Maybe it could have ended with Stannis's appearance but it's not like there was filler they could have cut to make room for it.
Perhaps quantity rather than quality might have been a better option to help convey the scale of the army, but those giants looks so awesome I'm glad they went that way.

Has there been any foreshadowing that stannis would go to the wall? I know in the book he reads the letter asking for help and realises that's what a king's duty involves, but seems like they've skipped over that so far. Would feel a little random to have him suddenly appear there now.

He pretty much shows up in the book without question either.. the same way as the show isn't it?
Davos gets a letter, it doesn't say what the letter is until much later where he shows up to help fight them off.

Thought the battle scenes at the wall were awesome, just alittle disappointed that the whole show was dedicated to it. I was just very ready to see what happens next in the Tyrion saga.

Because if they thought of everything, we'd have nothing to watch.

It'd be, like, lots of scruffy people at the base of a really giant fucking wall with nothing to do.
