Hey Grimm, what are your thoughts on GRRM dying prior to completing the series? It will obviously happen, so which author would you like to have write books 6 and 7?
The dude's already stated he wont have anyone finish the novels if he dies before they're completed. It will most likely be wrapped up in the show. I can't remember where I saw the interview but something along those lines were stated.

I never really understood the 'reading uses your imagination' argument. Maybe it uses it more than tv but come on, you're consuming linear information and are presented with no room to make determinations about the universe. The only time you'd use your imagination is when you log onto the internet and make dumb theories on forums. and if posting on forums uses your imagination then I'm the imagination expert.
Reading uses your imagination more because it can only convey so much information. It's your imagination that fills in the blanks to make the story come to life in your head.

And that is why when a movie is made from a book, the people who have read the book and seen the movie tend to prefer the book.

It is always amusing (especially with Game of Thrones) when book purists get in a tissy over a supposed change from the books when that "change" wasn't actually a change at all, but instead just something that wasn't specified in the books.

Speaking of book purists reading into things, onwww.winteriscoming.com, book purists are in a tissy because Catelyn apparently expresses regret about being mean to Jon and saying that a lot of the bad things that happened to her family are her fault (a review called it bordering on character assassination and these people agree). In their mind Catelyn is a hero that treated Jon like any other person would have and if Robb had only listened to her then everything would have been great. I really don't know what book people are reading to get that impression of Catelyn. The list of Catelyn follies is a mile long heh.

If anything, showing her onscreen with some regret will have us mourning her loss at the RW instead of wondering how she managed to live that long already.

Catelyn is by far the character I hated the most (besides Joffrey and his bitch mother). But its not even a "love to hate" thing with Cat the way it is with the others. I mean we love to fucking hate on Cersei , it gives us joy to see her rise and fall. With Cat, I just fucking want her to die...and stay dead...and never write her into another scene again. I don't know exactly what it is about her (other than her countless follies as you stated) but her character is just so...awful to me, and I remember a lot of other posts from FoH that had similar feelings. She is probably the most hated character in the books, that we were not intended to hate (according to GRRM).

I thought everyone pretty much agreed that Catelyn was a whiney bitch and pretty much singularly responsible for 90% of the horrible things that happen to the Starks? Is there actually dissent on that score?

Meh, I forgive her treating Jon poorly as she didn't know the truth. Though I hardly see how her kinda feeling bad about treating one of her kids bad, especially as she is running out of loved ones (sister is nuts, husband dead, daughter kept by the Lannisters, two youngest kids believed dead and one daughter MIA, yeah?).

Anyways, Robb should have listened to his mother, kept his dick in his pants and married the fugly Frey girl and maybe kept his war going and his head. Tard.

Is Game of Thrones the most anticipated series after only 2 seasons or what? I haven't seen this much "BLARGHOMG GOT IS COMING!" in the cable industry in my 10 year career in it. It really is amazing.
I think so. Went to the Warriors game tonight and we were talking about it amongst our four person group and the two groups beside and the people in front of us all started talking about this upcoming season. Never experienced this kind of anticipation for a show.

See, I blame Cat, at least as much, for that shit. She went in and pretty much brokered that deal, and she knew her son was a 16 (ish?) year old boy with raging hormones, yet thats the deal she came out with. THEN her dumbass doesn't stop them all from going to the Frey's wedding bash, despite knowing the Freys better than most anyone. But yeah, Robb is to blame as well.

Bah, that is life as a lordling in Westros. That was the deal they needed to get across The Twins and a bunch of troops they dearly needed. He should have known better, it was a clear disappointment and failure on his part.

As for the Red Wedding, the ancient ritual of "not murdering the fuck out of your guests" was respected by everyone, especially in The North. I am under the understanding that what the Frey's did was entirely unexpected and unheard of in Westros and destroys the Frey's reputation completely.

Yeah that kind of shit sticks to a noble family. If whoever comes out in top at the end of all this doesn't do away with the Freys on general principle (which seems pretty likely, either as revenge, or because they can't be trusted as allies), they're never going to live that down.

catelyn was easily the worst character shown thus far. every fucking thing she did was wrong and retarded. even zombie catelyn is an utter fuckwit.
and yes, the Freys are permafucked.

Yeah, the Freys had a shit reputation before, and now...well they are just...yeah permafucked. I forget, in the books did it end up being revealed that Tywin did not have a hand in the Red Wedding? I don't think he did, but its been awhile and I may be forgetting. But I think even IF the Freys had some sort of backer from one of the other houses, they are still screwed in the end for such a blatant act. It seems like thats the kind of thing that would bring down an entire house in Westeros.

Pretty sure he received a letter or something about it just before it happened and dropped a hint in a convo.

there was a deal with the Freys over 2 of their kids or something, they later came to KL to become king's guard or Sers or something, but i seriously doubt Tywin would have told them the deal was to murder the fuck out of them while guests breaking one of the highest tradition held in all the noble/all houses. even if Tywin had said, yes i want them murdered as your guests, the Freys are pretty fucking retarded not to realize how bad its going to make them look afterward.

as bad as what Robb did by breaking an arranged marriage deal is, that at least could be chalked up to impetuousness of youth and wouldnt reflect badly on the honor of House Stark. the Freys are now forever going to go down as a house that is untrustworthy and just plain old assholes.

Didnt Bolton himself put his sword thru Robb? It's been a while but I recall the swordsman saying something like Jayme sends his regards before giving him a taste of steel (prior Jayme had said to Bolton to say hi to Robb for him).
