From the EW article

Each season has used material from books beyond where the bulk of that season's story was set. Best I can figure, you'll hit the end of Dance on most of the major storylines by the end of next season, if not before the end-and obviously you need to set up season 6, at the very least. Is the sense at this point that you know where the characters need to eventually end up, and so you're just going to increasingly play your own game from here on out?
We have talked to George extensively about where he's going with the books, and will continue to do so. His books are the blueprint for the world we're building. Ultimately the show needs to work on its own terms, and keep on moving. Our job is to square that necessity with George's work to the best of our ability.

Still thinking 7 seasons total?
Yep...

...You know George's ending for the saga. Non-specifically, do you feel the saga's ending is creatively satisfying? Is it an ending you're excited to work toward?
BENIOFF: Absolutely, yes.
WEISS: 100 percent.
BENIOFF: And I feel we have so many conversations about later seasons. And this year we've started talking about the very end. One of the lessons of Breaking Bad, which had a phenomenal final season, phenomenal entire series-you really get the sense [creator Vince Gilligan] went into it with a story in mind and achieved that. We want this to work.
Train is rolling with or without the finished books, but it sounds like they are more or less doing it with his input.

The big problem will be book 7. GRRM will only have about 2 years to crank it out assuming book 6 is out just by the deadline. He released books 2 and 3 in that kind of time frame, so he is capable, but recent history doesn't give much reason to be optimistic. Even getting book 6 out in time is pretty iffy. If he misses the show production window really anything could happen. It would pretty be weird to write a novel when the story has been finished already by a wildly popular TV show. It would be like writing one of those lame blockbuster novelizations, which I'm sure he doesn't want to do. Honestly I could see him just scrapping the idea of finishing the series entirely and shift his focus to other things.
Part of me hopes that once GRRM sets the pieces in book 6 he can just cruise out the conclusion and epilogue no problem. I feel like he has an idea of how it all ends but isn't sure about the best way to get there. But that's just hopes.

I think they are probably targeting 8 seasons. Season 5 will cover the remaining books in abbreviated fashion. They'll hit the major points, but they are going to have to cut a lot of the traveling, wall politics, minor POVs, etc. That will let the season be more or less action packed and prevent the show from losing viewers, particularly given what people have come to expect after the last 15 episodes or so.

Book 6 will come out early next year, probably before Season 5 premiers so that the production team will have enough time to read it and start writing out scripts for season 6 on time. I'm sure they already have a broad outline of the book already, so they will really only need to read it to help fill in details/specific scenes. I suspect book 6 will have enough content to stretch out over two seasons, and the first part of season 6 will probably cover a few things they didn't have time to get to in season 6.

There is zero chance the next book is out before the next season. We will be lucky if the next book is out before the following season.

Supposedly they're playing up Myrcella next season as a genuine love story with Trystane of Dorne. What do you want to bet it ends up a doomed romance thing with Trystane taking the place of Quentyn Martell and getting roasted by Dany's dragons?

As has been mentioned before I've gotten a little looser with book stuff since the finale. Part of this is because it's after the show so anyone hunting in this thread wants more than what the show has to offer, and also because the last episode was a bit confusing and had some omissions with Tyrion that I think people should know about. I'll probably continue to not hit people for posting innocent stuff until people start dropping hints about the next season.
Ok I'm putting a stop to the book stuff. If you want to talk about the book go to the other thread. No shit in here allowed that wasn't aired on HBO.

I'll be joining the book thread soon since I got super spoiled after the finale thanks to some faggot magazine writer. Dunno If I'm more excited to read the books or to read the books so I can go to that thread and read what Chuk is writing.

God damn my posts always seem to get fucking nailed by Tuco's collateral damage.

She's 13 in season 4, so in Game of Thrones terms she's getting too old to marry.

Depending on what GRRM does in the next books I can't say I care about her plot beyond the cool fight scenes they have.

Ugh, if they start doing flashbacks to pad out their bullshit I am so done.

First flashback I see I'm calling it.

another gimmick could be "x time ago" and introduce new characters to interact with our present timeline characters. for instance in the book timeline Euron(is that the dad's name?) Greyjoy is dead by now and the king's moot has already happened, they could insert that as well as the earlier scenes of quentyn martell being sent off to see daeny for the plan b marriage deal. if they do this i wont be done with the show because i will be happy they are playing catchup with the books, but i am sure show watchers will be wondering "whats with this pirate shit all of a sudden?"

-edit
and lets not forget we have another sea voyage to look forward to, sam and gilly's romantic cruise to braavos and then his trip to oldtown to learn maestering and meet up with jaqen and maybe talk to sam's dad.

I'll be happy if they cut out the whole victarion/greyjoy chunk of the remaining books to be honest. I hated just about everything about them.

BUT, the Euron=Daario theory is one of the most amusing theories out there and Show-Daario "stealing" 93 ships this season (exactly the amount Euron sails off with) supports it more than just about any other theory. The fact that the new Daario actor actually fits the physical greyjoy/Euron description helps too.

Can't say I've heard that one. Got a link to it or quick summary yourself? It doesn't show up on the Compendium of Theories on the ASoIaF forums, and they've got just about everything covered.

It's mostly about eurons personality being similar to Daario, then in AFfc there's a huge gap in the timeline where Daario disappears for months while he is supposedly putting down the lhazareen. It's during this gap that euron first appears in the kingsmoot where everyone remarks about him.

At the kingsmoot he's described as the rakish, rapey SECOND SON who had always been the most flamboyant of the greyjoy brothers. He's described as affecting a tyroshi accent and styling and his crew even pretends to be tyroshi when they capture gull town later. They capture the place with 100 ships but they leave with 93. The book dwells on how the figurehead of eurons flagship, the Silence, is the same as the motif euron uses on his dagger and weapons: a naked woman covering her mouth....exactly the same motif Daario has on his daggers in the show.

There's a lot more including danys 3 lovers prophecy, moqorros comments, and the qartheen warlock stuff.
