It's pretty clear from the side projects he is doing that he probably feels creatively drained in terms of the series and may be trying to motivate/spark the process again. I get the feeling that he loves the world building aspect, but isn't feeling the actual narrative story at the moment.

I prefer the books. If the series gets ahead of them I'll just stop watching it. I'm sure those that are similarly inclined are a very small part of the viewership.

I love the books and would definitely prefer to have them finished and read them. I'm just satisfied in knowing that GRRM is heavily involved with the show and whatever way the show wraps up is almost assuredly with his blessing.

Yeah, I don't view the show as something alien. It has his stamp of approval, and I doubt that will change. The books just have a much stronger delivery, and I'd rather that be the way I experience the story if I have to make the choice.

we can guess. tyrion is with her at the fighting pits. maybe ser friendzone captures tyrion, brings him to dany, she gets super pissed that ser friendzone captured a dorf to redeem himself so he ends up in the fighting pit. dany perhaps thinks tyrion and mormont may be working together against her, so she has him sitting there as her hostage while mormont fights some badass pit fighter. soon after drogon shows up pwning everything.

This. I'm looking forward to seeing new shit. All the plebs that never read the books got to experience the story visually from the beginning, I'm looking forward to that in future seasons, especially without the possibility of spoilers.

I think it's safe to assume that where the show ultimately ends up, the books will too. The journey will obviously be different, but I don't see them changing the ending much.
