hence why Jon, Bran and Dragon girl crap is like...peppered in- its the orig stuff that was meant to be a classic fantasy type novel- but it evolved to a different direction than intended. I doubt GRMM would ever admit this..
No. In the original draft, he wasn't even going to use dragons. That's why one of the book dedications reads: "To Phyllis, who made me put the dragons in". Also, the first book, obviously preceding any popularity, is titled "Game of Thrones", a phrase with heavy political, not fantasy, implications. His focus was always tailored towards the political aspects. It did evolve in scope (from a trilogy) but not themes/focus.

Because at this point it sure seems like the Blue Eyed Snow Zombies are the ones that cause winter... and that sounds like a mystical bullshit factor to me.
It can't be the Others though, unless they have been causing winter cycles without ever showing up. Ned told Bran that that they hadn't been seen for a thousand years, but there have been many winters in that time.

I wish at this point that he hadn't inserted magic into the story or at least not nonsense like defying death and upsetting the foundations of the world because some eggs hatched. Cat, Stannis, Euron, Valon, Samwell and his future in Oldtown, Red Priests, Danny's cryptic prophesies... and things associated with them have been stinking up the narrative due to their proximity to mystical garbage. The politics and the order imposed on the world through political alliances made the story for me and I dread having all of that upturned and thrown out the window because the snow elves are coming and people aren't dying properly. It would be a damn tragedy if by the time Littlefinger is set to reveal his political magnum opus things come to a screeching halt because subtlety has ceased to matter in favor of Tree Magic, Dragons melting castles and things rampaging around on giant spiders.

But whatever, I'm sure a lot of people disagree with me. YMMV.

Fair enough, as I said it is just imo and from what random information I have gathered- its just what it seemed to me. it won't stop me from enjoying the show

If a legitimate leak comes out I'll worry about it. Typical hype from actors doesn't count as a leak.
I would appreciate it if you put spoilers about future moderation in spoilers. This forum is like a novel to me and you are ruining it.

Seems HBO ispushing for more than 7.I seriously doubt it would happen, but they seem open to driving up dump trucks full of money to the actors, so who knows. Whatever happens, I hope Benieoff/Wiess stick to the "good of the story" as their compass. I'd hate to see 10 hours of shlock, but I'd also hate for a lot of stuff to get cut just to cram it in.....I have this terrible feeling the final season will be the split bullshit that all the other shows have been doing. A 16 episode final season (Would love a few extra episodes...I hate when seasons get split though.).

Also, some BOOK spoilers (Maybe pretty major, not part of this season). From casting, read at your own risk.

probably not spoilery as the show is assigning plot points for the popular actors in the show that did not take place in the book. jaime lannister in dorne for example and possible sansa in winterfell.

Yeah and they're doing shit all sorts of out of order, so that means pretty much nothing. I think most readers assume that that is how it will actually play out, though.

Jon surviving or coming back somehow would hardly be a surprise given all the foreshadowing about it in book 5.

I certainly hope he is dead or survives, but if he dies I want him to stay dead. No rezz.

He could be dead, if Martin was just floating all of the symbolism, resurrection talk, and assorted other imagery for nothing. Which, of course, he wouldneverdo, AMIRITE?

I think he wouldn't do that. Half the fun is guessing who is what piece of the puzzle. Having all that prophecy shit be a lie wouldn't be deceitful, it'd just be bad writing.
