How would Varys get word of it when he's sitting on Dragonstone with the rest of these retards? He gonna pull out his flip phone and make some calls? YO FAM WHAT'S GOOD AT THE ROCK
I mean, I said the same thing about how Euron ended up going to King's Landing instead of Dragonstone, and Scream jumped all over my shit about how "Cersei invited him." But the motherfucker was on a boat. I guess he gets good cell service in the middle of the Narrow Sea.

Honestly, I'm at the point where I'm starting to think most writers just aren't up to snuff for the internet age. When everything you've previously written can be analyzed by millions of people, you're going to overlook shit.

Ravens can still land on a boat, though they have to really plan it well as they approach at light speed and have to start their descent well before the boats are even in view. It's very complicated.

So....you just give the raven directions, like, "Hey, go find a boat with really big sails. It should be in this general direction. Make sure it's the BIG sails though! And they're black with a giant gold kraken. You know what krakens are, right raven?"

Man, ravens are really fucking smart.

I'm assuming Olenna sent a raven when she saw the entire lannister army rolling up to her gates to Dany with "hey the army is here". so she knows her unsullied probably arrived at an unguarded fortress, and she knows where to bring dragons / dothraki to fight them without any civilian casualties.

Highgarden was attacked well after Casterly Rock, these were not simultaneous events.

If so, that seems like an even bigger fuck up in writing. "Magic" was supposed to be a fairy tale in their world. It was only when the dragons/meteor/WW's came back that "magic" returned.

If they've been using magic ravens for the last few hundred years since magic disappeared, I...I don't even know what to say.

was reading up on ravens, GRRM said his ravens are faster and stronger than our homing/racing pigeons
which can fly around 90mph, 700 miles per day with a range over 1000 miles.

in the books, think a maester was saying a most ravens can only fly to their home keep
and must be shipped back.
rarely one can learn 2 keeps and fly back and forth
and extremely rarely there will be one so smart it can fly to many places on command

The passage of time is something that this TV show has never been upfront about. Matter of fact, they never talk about time or dates except when it is in the distant past in books & scrolls. Every season has examples of time rapidly passing, to simply "get on with it".

All you autists spreging out over it really need a slap across the face.

There's magic all around them that they flat out ignore all the time, why would this be so crazy that they would too? Maybe they think this is how ravens simply are at this point.

Not saying its not lazy writing, but they do it enough in other places...why not here?

For real, terrible idea. Remember how their eyes lit up when Tyrion mentioned it and none of them really thought it through? Typical women.

With the Unsullied stranded and the rest of her forces stuck on Dragonstone I don't see how she can accomplish much. All Euron has to do is set up a sea blockade around her island and the Dothraki will start eating each other. Ballistae will take care of the dragons. At least she still has Ser Jorah!

Not sure rest of her forces are stuck on Dragonstone. Didn't think they sent all the rest of their ships with the Unsullied, and obviously some ships got away from Euron's first attack since they found Theon and what not. Also expecting the Ballistae to "take care" of her dragons might be extreme. Even if they magically killed all 3, they'd do considerable damage first.

Nobody sacrifices a rook to take a bishop, unless it sets up a guaranteed mate. A rook is 5 points and a bishop is 3.

Sacrificing a rook for a bishop can be valuable in plenty of situations. Does it give you an advantage in position, pressure or tempo that is worth the loss?

Don't fucking believe me?? Want to come fight me at chess? My high FIDE was 2260, but I'm out of practice. Lightning games only to prevent cheating you commie bot scum. ICC or FICS if your some commoner chess scum.

Such as?

The only thing I can think of is the wall, but they just think of it as a wall, not a magic wall.

All the other magic shit is post-dragons.

Now it's bothering me that we don't have a single example of a Raven not making it to its destination in the story.

Im sure these are all considerations that Astr0 weighed heavily before writing his post.

I'm almost certain there was a scene of them shooting some ravens down to prevent messages getting out at some point.

the dire wolves are a little bit magic. So, are the winterfell trees. oh, and giant wall of ice. Miracles and such might be fairytales, but people do believe in the gods, and the is plenty of examples of the world not being entirely mundane.
