Nah, it's similar though. The running/jumping/gliding is almost identical. The big difference is that in SR4 you have very powerful guns and in prototype you have very powerful melee attacks. You're actually faster in SR4, which is cool.

You can run around 100-200mph and you get an ability that makes all the objects around you fly in the direction your'e running. It's probably inspired by the scene in the matrix where neo saves trinity by flying to save her.

Did they change the the way vehicles handle from 4? That shit was retarded and killed the game for me. The first three games the driving was fun and arcadey, then all the sudden they try some sim anti-fun vehicle handling.

I think I'm the only person who enjoyed the vehicle handling in 4.

All I want is them to fix the camera to the vehicle like it was in GTA3. In VC they made it sway a bunch more and in SA they made it all but required that you move the camera with the vehicle. I think in 4 they kept the same 'camera does it's own fucking thing' methodology.

I don't even mind the camera, but the handling was incredibly twitchy, getting through a corner in one of the sportscars turned into a nightmare. Bikes were even worse, I found them to be almost unuseable. Although that's mostly because you keep getting knocked off, whereas in a car you just ram through everything.

I got used to the driving in 4, but I'll admit it was quite jarring at first to not be able to just floor it the entire time and powerslide through every curve like the old GTA games.

I feel like it'll be hard to enjoy this game that much after playing Saints Row 4.

"Ok Player, please drive this car across town and take out this group of 3 people."
"HOW ABOUT I JUST JUMP 80 METERS IN THE AIR AND AIR-DASH GLIDE TO THE TARGET THEN LAND IN AN EARTHQUAKE THEN BLAST THE BUILDING AWAY WITH MY DUB STEP GUN?!"
"you.. you can do that? That's AWESOME"
Yeah. I agree. The problem is, well:

GTA3: Groundbreaking 3rd-person open world gangster simulator.
GTA3 VC: The above, but with some new toys.
GTA3 SA: The above, but with some new toys.
GTAIV: The above but brown, depressing, annoying, shitty car physics, and a plot that directly contradicts the open world aspect: "Woe is me, for I am being dragged kicking and screaming back to being the monster I was in the Balkans. Oh angst, oh sorrow. Now watch as I drive on the pavement for half a dozen blocks then shoot the police with a rocket launcher".

As opposed to:
SR: Average GTA clone with a couple of good ideas
SR2: Better than GTAIV in every respect with a bunch of ideas which R* have only just now gotten around to stealing. Effortlessly pulls off a flawless balancing act between bathos and pathos which other developers would give their firstborn for the ability to even come close to. Solves the potential plot/game disconnect by having the PC be acomplete sociopathin the story as well.
SR3: Completely off-the-rails. Technically still a GTA clone but only in the loosest sense - it's more of a cartoon at this point.
SR4: Crackdown set in The Matrix with a chunk of Mass Effect thrown in. It has GTA-type stuff off to one side but its essentially legacy by this point.

So GTA V might well be a return to form, the best GTA ever, a technical marvel pushing the current gen consoles to their upper limites, etc. etc. - butit's still just GTA. Where's my Day Of The Tentacle-themed melee weapon? Where's my choice between dual wielding Firefly pistols, Han Solo's blaster, or ST:TOS phasers? Where is my weaponised dubstep, black hole launcher, or 'MERICA gun? Where's my abilities that lets me turn entire enemy waves into meat popsicles and then lets me run through them at an appreciable fraction of mach 1 while on fire before pulling off a jump/stomp combo that the Hulk would find a little OTT?

Where, in short, is my motherfucking lightsaberkatana?

Why would you want GTAV to be SR4? I'm glad that Saints Row is doing its own thing instead of trying to be GTA becauseI already have GTA for that.

I feel like with GTASA the GTA games have become stories built on a GTA foundation rather than about the sandbox themselves. So yeah, I expect GTAV to be similar to GTAIV in that regard. And SR4 is good but I GTA shouldn't copy its zany nature.

I don't think GTAV should try to emulate SR4. On the other hand, they do need to come up with something new. I have to agree with Itzena that the last few GTA games have been too similar to each other. I actually only managed to play GTAIV a few hours before I got bored and stopped. By contrast I just completed SR4 co-op and I don't remember the last time I laughed so much.

Imo I don't think they should change anything. If anything they should go back to their roots and leave all the quirky bullshit aside. Just create an engaging storyline that involves a lot of driving and shooting.

Agreed. Leave the quirky shit to SR4. I have no interest in playing SR just because it's so bullshit. I like to feel some what immersed.

IMO, SR2 was more immersive and just a better game than most of the GTA games. Basing your thoughts off one or two games of a series, especially in a series as unique as SR, would be a mistake. If SR5 came out and went back to the more realistic style of gameplay, I would put money on it being better than GTA:V.

I am curious. The only version I played was 3, and I felt it was too "zany" to get into it. I think Sleeping Dogs was better than every GTA.

I've only played the first two Saints Row games. The second one is badass. It's certainly less zany than videos I've seen from the SR3/4. Helicopter control is bullshit though.

I'm of two minds here. I liked the cinematic parts of the main narrative of GTAIV but I didn't care too much for the side activities and the world was mostly devoid of anything interesting to do. It looks like they've fixed that in V. We'll see. If GTAV is anything like Chinatown Wars (serious yet self-consciously absurd and cliche) then I ought to be very happy with the game.

SR4 is still zany, goofy and way over the top. The thing for me is that I feel like Volition is absolutely comfortable and at home with their style in this game. They completely own it. I haven't encountered the slightly forced humor that was present (imo, of course) in The Third.

Is this gonna have much better graphics on consoles? I put in GTA 4 for ps3 just for the hell of it and man it's ugly as shit.

I'm guessing that graphics wise it'll be VC:SA::GTAIV:GTAV.

I've always thought that GTAIV had pretty good graphics on ps3 though.
