So after getting back from the Philippines a couple weeks ago, I've been dieting to lose the 10+ lbs I've put on in the last few months. I going to Key West in a month and I know I'm going to go nuts with the food and beer then, so I'm trying to be as strict as I can until then. Any low calories snack/cooking suggestions? Something I can make a batch of for the entire week would be even better.

Vegetable soup has almost no calories. I can say from experience though that even if you say "This is delicious!" the first time you try it the soup will get old pretty fast. You can google the cabbage soup diet if you want the recipe for pretty good soup that has almost no calories but I have done it a couple times and you can easily drop 10 lbs in a week but by the end of the week I could hardly bring myself to eat that soup anymore.

Minestrone
Lentil Soup
Pizza(with whole wheat lavash, low fat mozzarella, and turkey pepperoni)

Those are some of my low calorie yet very filling options. Last one is quite high in protein too.

gordon ramsey recipe for broccoli soup

surprisingly simple:

put broccoli florets in boiling seasoned water 4mins, drain (keep water it's now veggie stock) puree the florets with the veggie stock, season.

i skip the goats cheese walnut and just drink the soup, i don't make it a puree i like it a bit gritty, i use a food processor.

before this i'd use cream/carrots/flour, 30mins cooking time, you could literally make this in 5mins with already boiling water.

(again i skip the goats cheese for basically a super healthy broccoli soup that somehow tastes great w/o all the crap)

I like just drinking Green smoothies. All that fiber keeps you full plus you are superdosing on a lot of great nutrients. My daily recipe is:

Half a bag of spinach
Handful or two of kale
1 Cucumber
Head of broccoli
1 scoop Trader Joe's berry flavored green powder
stevia or splenda to help sweeten the berry flavor.

Shit is delicious and I feel a million times better than I did before I started drinking them.

Do you have a dehydrator, Soy? We dehydrate apples, mostly, and they keep well, and fill the gap, taste good, and are, I think, low in calories. Jerky works, too, as just a little gets you through - get salmon jerky if you can find it. yum. Or do something like a little peanut butter on a banana or apple slice. Or, a perpetual favourite here is carrots and hummus or popcorn.

Don't let me down buddy, Dehydrated Pears should be on that list.

when I was dieting for the biggest loser at work ( I won BTW) I just made huge batches of chicken Fajitas. Cant go wrong with chicken breast and veggies.

Marinate some chicken in fajita spices, salt, chili powder and a bit of lemon juice overnight. Then the next day I sauteed the chicken in a bit of oil in small batches on high heat just until all sealed up and browned, followed by tons of cut up jalapenos, poblanos, onion and sweet peppers of all colors. I placed it all in a casserole in the oven all mixed up for 20 min with a bit of cheese on top. But the cheese is optional. Then I would have 2-3 flour wraps per night for dinner with some taco sauce or salsa. This would last me almost the entire week. They are about 80-100 calories each by my estimation.

i've had a nesco dehydrator for years
Amazon.com: Nesco FD-60 Snackmaster Express 4-Tray Food Dehydrator: Kitchen Dining

i'm pretty sure i chose this model style because the fan was on top and not on the bottom for easy clean up, the top is the fan so just take that off and all the trays are stackable and removable and just throw in the dishwasher. it gets really messy with jerky, lots of bits stuck here and there, just let the dishwasher take care of it.

i recently started to dehydrate again, since now that i've sharpened my knives to razor sharp, i just like to slice now, so slicing lots of fruits, ends up being cheaper in the long run for a bit of elbow grease.
(ends up being cheaper if you have access to cheap farmers markets)

jerky... not really since the cost per lb is almost identical depending on the bought jerky per lb and the meat used per lb. (remember meat is 2/3 water) while it's not cheaper, it is... better imo, since you're doing your own jerky and it's fresh w/ no preserves and stuff.

This is totally true in my opinion, as well. If you can control the amount of preservatives, it becomes a much healthier snack. We're camping next week, so our dehydrator is working overtime this week.
