The flann I make is the best flann I've ever had.Tuco, stick to fixing bumpers.
It's okay Tuco, your good looks and golden voice make this kinda shit okay. The flann I make is the best flann I've ever had.
edit: nm it's spelled flan. I was conflating it withhttp://www.cs.ubc.ca/research/flann/

Serious now: how much flan have you had? I've had it once and it was disgusting. I read a recipe of it and I think to myself "I want that!", especially since I've had other cooked custards. But it honestly doesn't turn up much(restaurant menus, parties, gatherings, etc) and I make enough kickass fattening deserts as it is. I think the one I had overcooked the custard, it was too thick. The flann I make is the best flann I've ever had.

As a side note, what's the technical term for a Food Engineer? Gastronomer?
The thing is, I think that's how it's supposed to be made in a lot of communities. Thousands of abuelitas across the globe probably make it just like that, and if it came out like the second pic they'd think something was wrong. Personally I think it looks gross as fuck. The URL for that top pic makes me think someone was proud of that result.
Soy...it's desert.

I'd say 90% of the flan I've had was at a Mexican restaurante'. Some good, some not so good. The thing is, I think that's how it's supposed to be made in a lot of communities. Yeah, I have some real pyrex and I use it in the broiler all the time.Real Pyrex can easily have water boiled in it on the stovetop. It is made out of borosilicate, which specifically expands/contracts very little with temperature changes of any kind. You can broil in it even. But the EPA limited boron emissions in the late 80s/early 90s which is a byproduct of making borosilicate. So World Kitchen licensed the name from Pyrex for sales in North America and replaced it with lime soda glass products. Which all say "Not for broiler or stovetop" on them. If you have Pyrex that doesn't say that, congratulations, you have real Pyrex. I always look for it at thrift stores, estate sales, etc. If you live in Europe, no problem, you can just go buy the real stuff new.
Hmm, I do have a couple dishes to replace, I'll have to see if I can't find some stuff at thrift stores...
