I had 50 people for lunch last week, used four slow cookers to cook soup. Turned them on at midnight the night before after doing the prep work had perfect soup ready without any work at lunch time the next day. Crock pots are being used less since I have the sous vide for sure, but they're not useless.
Good point. I often cook for 50 people.

My crockpot is essentially a chilli machine.
That's like saying that your microwave is your steak machine

I just died a little inside

Well, they can be. Either with a thermometer and you working the on/off switch, or something likeInkbird All-Purpose Digital Temperature Controller Fahrenheit Scientific
I'd be half tempted to protoype a little PCB using an RTD or maybe a thermistor (I haven't done much with cold junction compensation), and maybe adding a SS relay and cord to it. I dunno though, that would take time and effort and I'm short on time and perpetually kinda lazy. Though IC sensors look like they might be neat to play with too...

How the fuck do you make chili that a crockpot is some kind of tool for plebs?
He doesn't need to cook it. He puts the ingredients in a pot and then tells the chili all about his white privilege; it just boils over on it's own over nothing.

That's how they cook chili at Mizzou.

Are those chocolate chips in there?

Not complaining, just curious. Looks delicious!
Yeah I threw some chocolate cups in instead of the walnuts, a little extra incentive to keep eating even if he gets suspicious about the zucchini.

Well, there's probably a good way to make chili in a crock pot and a bad way.

The good way would be to brown all of your meat outside the crock pot, and also sautee your vegetables to impart whatever flavoring you want in them(like my bacon preference mentioned earlier). If you do all of that, and THEN add everything to the crock pot mainly just for heating it all up, thats fine.

If you chuck everything in raw at the start and let the crockpot actually cook it all, you're missing out on a TON of potential flavor.(the steak in a microwave comparison)

Ahh...

Raw meat directly into crockpot sounds ... gross.

I'm gonna do some quick pickled cauliflower and brussels sprouts with my vacuum sealer today. Vinegar, peppercorns a little mustard seed and fresh dill. Question for those of you who have done it. Do you typically blanch the veggies first, cook them all the way through but not until they're mush, or just do it raw?

I've pickled nothing in my life.

EXCEPT MY LIVER! OOOOOO O SNAP!

Seriously though, I don't drink much.
