for me it's:
If it's the 1 or possibly 2 "must see" on the big screen films, pay money to see it. There is never more than 2 of these a year, usually only 1 every year or 2 years. This isn't to say I don't get dragged to watch other crap in theaters, which is my justification (not really I don't need any justification) to:
Pirate whatever media i want to see/hear (WOohoo awards season coming up gents, DVD screeners are out weeks/months before the films are released in theaters)
Sometimes I check netflix to see if it's any good, if its available.
Pretend that I may actually buy anything on DVD or Blu-Ray and never actually do so. Seriously, the only DVD/Blu-Ray player I own is the blu-ray rom in my computer. The only "TV" i own is my computer monitor. You don't actually expect me to buy this shit do you?

It's $50 bucks to take yourself and 1 other person to a movie theater nowadays, like 80 for imax. Thank god i'm not married or have kids. Hollywood expects me to do this 2-3x a week. ead hollywood, make better films. I'll wait til netflix and/or DVD and by DVD I mean i will steal it. I'm not paying you 20 bucks to own a film I wouldn't pay you $20 bucks to see on a 50'-80' screen.

Now, I don't go to the movies anywhere near as much as I used to, and I unabashedly pirate the ever-loving shit out of stuff, but that's because I'm lazy and/or don't care. Some of the excuses being given here are just ridiculous. $50 for a trip to the movies is only if you haven't eaten for two days beforehand and can't possibly make it through a two hour movie without eating a four course meal of popcorn, nachos, hot dogs, and milk duds. Even the most expensive non-IMAX theater around here is only $11 for an adult ticket in the evening. The nicer theater is actually only $7, less for matinee. IMAX is only about $16. How hard is it to plan to eat before or after the movie where you can actually get something besides popcorn and soda for 10 bucks?

I get that some people enjoy the movie "experience" and want popcorn and sodas and such, and I'm fine with people wanting that if they are willing to pay it. Someone has to keep theaters in business. But if those prices are your reason for pirating, you're doing it wrong. There is zero reason why you can't get out of a theater for around $10 a person. Or less if you really care that much. I can't remember the last time I bought anything but my ticket at a theater.

And not that it matters because I don't care if it is justified or not, but I have begun pre-ordering every Marvel bluray the moment it is available because I know I want to own them. Same with Edge of Tomorrow and Dredd. But I still pirate them ahead of time when available, and only play the actual bluray itself to see the special features.

But that's the point. Sure it is easy to make the movies cost $50 for two, but it doesn't have to. People are using that as an excuse to pirate, when that's the actual bullshit being spouted. Just say you like to pirate shit, this isn't the pearly gates with St. Peter asking you why you stole that movie. If someone here has a problem with you downloading a movie instead of buying it, why do you care? But don't blame it on inflated numbers, half of which aren't even the actual cost of the tickets.
