If I am not wrong the free chapter grabbing is no longer there, this update you need the Expansion pack to play anway. I could be wrong but all old chapters should be available for everyone (I could be wrong here)

I have the expansion and just picked up the chapter. I assumed it was like before, free if you logged in within a certain time frame. But they did change a few basic long term mechanics, like dailies, etc. I don't know the new rules yet.

Next expansion coming in August: Janthir Wilds

  • Going to the Isle of Janthir, north of Divinity's Reach
  • Spears are becoming a new land weapon, usable by all classes
  • New raid
  • Warclaws are getting the same treatment Skyscales got in SotO, with expanded PvE functionality to navigate the expansion, and a revamp of their WvW functionality
  • Housing in the form of a new Homesteading system
For how feature-light SotO felt at times, this looks surprisingly beefy. Wasn't expecting housing to show up.

When EoD came out, after seeing my all-time favorite classes in any MMO, the Weaver become less and less effective while still being challenging to play, I chose to switch to the FOTM OP braindead profession, the Mechanist. I then auto-attacked my way to the last quest in EoD, then promptly logged off and haven't looked back.

I think when balancing changes push this chart to have more representation for Weavers (or even just elementalists) I might play GW2 again and play the latest expansions.

Maybe the Mechanist was a dull (while being immensely OP) profession, but I think so much of my enjoyment of GW2 was purely because of how much fun the Weaver was to play and changing to another profession to enjoy the new content isn't desirable.

I'm out, having to watch a 20 min gay wedding at the end of the last expansion in order to complete the story was too much for me.

GW2 definitely needs a much stronger skip option. There's a bunch of quests I wanted to enjoy but just didn't want to wait through all the dialog for.

haven’t logged in since the last dragon expansion, whichever one that was. Gave up on them ever trying to balance shit and recently read that every class can use just about every weapon now? Is that true?

It’s like they ignored the decades long complaints and criticisms and quadrupled down on the dumb.

The last expansion they unlocked all the elite spec weapons for the entire class to be able to use them, so a core mesmer/mirage/virtuoso could use the chrono's shield for example.

Their balance team sucks ass.

Released earlier this week.

I'm casually exploring the first map. But is it just me, or is this a major step above the previous expansion? Lowland Shore is freaking gorgeous and has some really fun events.

Yeah, it's nice getting the occasional zone where the world isn't ending, and where it's just about chill exploring. And even without masteries, I'm really liking the revamped warclaw; being able to throw yourself off a cliff and use the air dash to break your fall is great fun.

The bog event where you ride your warclaw to kill the maggots was great. That entire event was really cool, I thought.

Haven't played in 934714 years. Have the first two xpacs, just bought Janthir. How do I get to Janthir area? Walk?

You'll need to start the expansion story, in the Hero Panel. Once you get through the first step (which is a lot of talking, just to warn you), the entrance will show up in Divinity's Reach.
