I really hope they don't carebare the whole thing up, as I know they must be discussing how to prevent it from just being TDM. Putting rules on PvP on every server doesn't sound like a good way to do that. Adding things to do other than PvP in cities is the way to do that. Base building, vehicles, a deep enough post-apocalyptic economy, and zombies that pose some semblance of a threat are the way to do that. Basically, everything DayZ Standalone doesn't have right now.

For the die hard bloodthirsty bastards among the playerbase, I'd suggest adding in what most Epoch servers in the mod have- roving AI, AI missions and quests, AI hostile zones, etc. On the server I play on, there's an AI island that is a bitch and a half to fight through, but a great source of loot. PvP is still a danger, and you have to worry about players swooping in as you're embattled for easy kills, but they have to worry about the danger of one-shotting AI all the same. It's much more interesting than just camping on top of a hill for five hours with a sniper rifle waiting for players to ambush, and I think it would remove a lot of the attraction of just hanging out at spawn zones killing defenseless or under-equipped players when the prospect of better loot exists elsewhere.

All of that can be done without removing rule-less PvP, and as we've seen from DayZ, despite a buggy half-functioning game with a terrible engine, the anything goes approach to player interaction is a huge draw for players. The alpha has sold millions now, and people sure as shit aren't playing DayZ for the zombies.

Heh.. I can't even get that info, and I work 50' from the H1Z1 team. It'll come when they think it's ready.
Mind dropping an anonymous letter in Smed's inbox saying to stop embarrassing himself and his team with the ridiclous launch dates he seems to like to spout off about? As a fan of SOEs products, this is getting really annoying. Just keep your mouth shut until you have a more concrete idea of what's going on.

The Clegg and Greg twitch stream was pretty cool, liking a lot of the assets being added in the game. As long as I keep seeing a game being built I'll be happy. I'm interested to see how the Murderhole base looks next time.

Yea, Smed is starting to look like the Don King of MMO's. He needs to shut his lie hole.

Yea I wish this had a Fallout theme instead of zombies. Otherwise sounds good, has many EVE-ish elements apparently. I'll probably pony up the early access fee.
A Stalker theme would be best with player groups competing over standard resources as well as artifacts that randomly spawn in dangerous areas.

The blowout storm mechanic they had in the later games would be awesome, having to seek out shelter when they hit and get stuck in situations where you have to share or compete over shelter with other players:Emission - The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Wiki - Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, Call of Pripyat and more

You can dress it up and color it how ever you want.

Add open gank pvp Dayz style, and that becomes your game; Quake deathmatch. Period

You can add as many gimmicks as you like, none of that shit matters. It'll never beat a human player, and they become the meta. You'll be gearing and doing everything to fight other players.

And once again like in every other fucking open pvp game, from Mortal Online, Darkfall, DayZ, you'll have another glorified deathmatch arena.

No thank you. I walk outside and trip over games that provide that already (Planetside 2 included).
Yes, just have a PvE crafting lovefest....

MMOs need to find a way to encourage players to police themselves ala the Anti-PKs which prowled Rallos back in the day. RZ was a deathmatch at launch, but the community succeeded in stigmaitizing PKing and turned Pkers into pariahs.

Or, for all it's shittiness, how players policed themselves in Face of Mankind with people being able to become marshals and go around arresting those who break the law, give the world something of a Old West feel to it.

Darkness, and dealing with its effects, were absolutely critical to my 'new player experience'.

Having to secure light sources for safe travel was not a denial of service, it was an enhancement of it.

That dark line of trees when I entered EC is forever burned in my memory. Running from inn to inn for safety, seeing others congregated there taking advantage of the light they gave off... Taking the raft from Halas into the dark newbie tunnel, then emerging into the twisting Everfrost peaks. The anxiety I felt in that moment was a direct result of the use of darkness. That emotional connection, the fear I felt, was the reason I became attached to that character, that setting, and ultimately the game itself.
I tried a Barb Shammie before settling on a WE Druid and found the lighting requirements for a human class awesome. Needing a light source to be able to realistically get through the tunnel dividing EF and BB was a big deal and it felt like an accomplishment to get through to BB finally.

With that said the lighting for human sight rocked. Infra and Ultravision bled it all out.

If you haven't played DayZ you have no earthly clue how this game would or should work.
Having played both DayZ and DF, Creslin is on the ball. For all the fantasy setting, DF was essentially little different than an FPS (At least at launch, never played it's relaunch).

What he mentioned should be in this game.

Watching the stream recording now. The UI looks pretty slick now. It's funny they had to name the character TwitchNoPK.

I really hate the graphic filter or whatever they use at night where everything seems to just become black and white.
What is there hold up on a release date for the alpha buy-in? They went from 4-weeks to silent. I'm not surprised it was pushed back but wish they would give us something tentative.

I think they want more systems in than just run around and loot/kill. SOE seems to be really pushing the crafting and building of the game. The crafting did look very promising though the game still makes me think of a better rust than dayz right now.

What's the feel from the team? They liking what they're doing or are they frustrated? Just curious if there is some excitement brewing in whatever closet they're locked in. It looks like a small team just having a good time and sometimes you get good stuff out of those situations.
