What is there hold up on a release date for the alpha buy-in? They went from 4-weeks to silent. I'm not surprised it was pushed back but wish they would give us something tentative.
Their dates have been too squishy. I'm just going with Elidroth's "When its ready"

If you missed it, check out their H1z1live streamfrom a few weeks ago where they do about 2 hours worth of meet and greet with the h1z1 team.

It seems the delay was to greatly enhance the features of what was originally planned to me for alpha. The only thing I dislike from the new streams is there seems too be way to many zombies around. The one yesterday he couldn't walk 50 feet without running into a dozen of them. It would be great if it was based on a base number+zombies( players ) turned - zombies killed + random zombies entering area from someplace else. This all instead of just a shit ton of zombies spawning all the time. The real threat is always the players not the zombies. Zombies just keeps you on your toes.

What's the feel from the team? They liking what they're doing or are they frustrated? Just curious if there is some excitement brewing in whatever closet they're locked in. It looks like a small team just having a good time and sometimes you get good stuff out of those situations.
The general feeling I get is one of excitement. I'm on the internal development discussion threads and they're always lively and interesting. There is definitely no frustration that I'm seeing at any level. I haven't participated in a daily test in awhile because I've been too busy with EQ stuff, but the game is definitely making big developmental strides on a regular basis.

I know the topic was brought up over and over again when it was announced but with all the survivor games coming out these days, it's a shame SOE didn't go for something a little more creative.The Stomping Landis a multiplayer survival game in early access on Steam and you're in a dinosaur-filled world which is fucking great.The Forestis another survival game and it looks terrifying (and supports Oculus Rift, though it's single player only).

If H1Z1 is good enough, I'm going to overlook it but I wish someone with a full blown dev team like SOE wouldn't have held back at all and been a bit riskier with their setting.

If you have too many zombies spawning everywhere, they can't really be that dangerous. If you have fewer zombies, they can actually be dangerous. Which means the game will have tons of zombies that are relatively easy to mow down. It'll appeal to mainstream audiences, who will then not play it anyways. Queue the 'the game is what's really dead' jokes.

Maybe they'll make a 'hard core' server or something...

We're working out ways to use our content pack system to support multiple server rulesets. Here are the ones we're kicking around the office in discussions:
.Hardcore ruleset. Wipes all ownership and recipes upon death.
.PvP v. PvE
.Military Weapons toggle
.Guns Toggle (melee / bows only server)
.RP Server (VOIP attracts zombies and other tidbits).
.Worldchat v. Area Chat
.Hardcore ruleset 2. Starvation! (Food / Water consumption much higher).
.Hardcore ruleset 3. Zombies / wolves deadlier / faster / hardier.
.Base destructibility (easy, hard, not at all)

We'd then be able to support server sets such as:

Oblivion [RP][No MilitaryWeapons][Starvation] Goodliving [PvE][No Guns][Hardcore Death]

If I ever make it around to returning to MMOs and play this there better be an iron sights only server.

Not only because I fucking love iron sights, but also the obsessive whining that iron sight fanatics always carry around with them.
