I'm not sure why you mentioned The Silence of the Lambs since Hannibal doesn't die in it or any of the books. The show takes place before Red Dragon.

I like how even though I have an idea what happens to certain characters, and where they are in the books/movies timeline, they can still surprise me.
Chilton having half his organs removed and being accused (convicted?) of being the Chesapeake Ripper, for example

This show is an example of what can happen when you have a director who trusts his audience to be capable and willing to go a long for the ride on something smart and not patently formulaic. I enjoy that it only very loosely adheres to the book material (almost not in the slightest).
When I think about the way they are doing this show, I have to wonder what it might have been like had they chosen to loosely do 'Hannibal Rising' (Hannibal's younger formative years) instead. No complaints though. I love that something like this is surviving and thriving and hope it sparks more of an interest for the creation of better network shows in the future.

the tv interpretation of the guy's face was just genius; kinda the inverse of the movie, which i was mindlessly expecting.
(got a alexender mcqueen/thecell vibe from the show visually).
gameofthrones feels vulgar/explicitly resolved (like a stage play) compared to this show.
i'd recommend starting from season2 for newcomers, then backtracking to s1 allthemeanwhile hedging your expectations that there are some disjointed csi epi's/scenes.

Nah, you have to watch it all in order to appreciate how much it's progressed. There is also an absolutely huge amount of plot points that you have to have watched the whole show to understand.
Last nights episode was absolutely fucking awesome, probably the best one yet. This show is better written than the books it's based on and the acting and casting is just brilliant.

I'm kind of surprised that this show doesn't seem to have gotten more traction. Could anyone who's watched it and not liked it tell me why? Or is it merely just not gotten the advertising or word-of-mouth to really take off? I genuinely think it's one of the finest shows on television now, from the writing to the cinematography and, of course, the food porn.
Friday time slot for regular TV is bad, and you don't get streaming to your consoles and shit on hulu plus. I have to buy it for $3 an episode from amazon streaming or iTunes to watch it on my tv. Totally worth the price to me, but a hard sell to people that don't know how good it is.

Ah, thank you, that makes sense. I have a program called Play On, that goes out to TV websites and allows you to stream content straight to your television. It's not perfect, because it's not in HD but at least I can watch the program at my leisure within a day of it airing. Those with amazon prime can see the first season and I assume the same will hold true for S2 when the time comes.

My pc isn't connected to my 50 inch tv in front of my cushy memory foam couch. I use the hulu plus app on my ps4 for everything but hannibal. I don't mind paying some cash to support a good show, especially one that gets lower ratings because the public is so fucking stupid.

I think part of the appeal of this show to me is that Hannibal is my favorite kind of villain. Like Iago, or the Joker, he has his own reasons for what he does and they are not really discernible. "Some men just want to watch the world burn." Cause it's funny. Or in this case, because he was curious. Delightful.
