Yeah there is a ton of things on the newer TVs you need to account for, but at the end of the day its what you like visually.
For me, after months of research , and going to many show rooms i bought two Displays.
My video game TV is the Sony KDL-55W900. It hits every mark I want out of a purely video game display.
Shopping for the 65 inch for my Sports/Movie room was MUCH tougher. I did a month of going to different showrooms, mostly the Magnolia displays at Best Buy.
The sales people were very passionate about the plasmas, so I got to see them calibrated correctly at there best possible settings.
It came down to 3 tvs for me. The VT60, the ZT 60, and the Samsung F8500.
They put these side by side in every show room.
As much as I agreed on allot of things the Magnolia sales force was showing me, there was just something I still do not like about all the Plasmas.
Then I went to a really nice Magnolia showroom, that had an amazing setup to show the differences between all the reference quality sets side by side.
I met a dude there that was not only extremely knowledgeable, but also agreed that is always what the individual likes versus what the pros says is good.
Thats when I saw the f8000, and for me that was the set I wanted. From the almost non existent frame, to the LED tech competing very closely to the plasmas.
It was just everything I enjoyed including a razor sharp picture. It looks like a work of art.
The best way to describe that display is if you have ever seen a Samsung Galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition or a Note 3. Those screens are absolutely stunning. The blacks stay pitch black, and it's almost like the brightness from the set comes from the colors themselves. Now imagine that in a 65 inch version, and you have the f8000. Its not going to be for everyone, but it works perfect for me.
Will some people favor the Plasmas? yes Will some others favor the LEDS? yes
But let yourself decide that, not other people, or a spec sheet.
