Cnet just likes Plasmas, which is pretty much a disservice to the fact they are reviewers.
IMHO the best TV of this year is the Samsung f8000.

It excels across the board, they even fixed game mode so it is has one of the lowest response times from a large panel out there.

I acutely love Soap Opera effect now because of that TV. I just never got to see it on a really good display with quad core.
It never stutters, or does that speed up thing most TVs do. When the motion is that smooth its amazing to look at, and talk about a sharp picture.

It's also is one of the TVs with almost 0 border, which makes it look pretty cool.

When I was deciding between the zt60 and the f8500, I saw that TV and was shocked it wasn't displaying 4k.

I've got the 75" S9000 Samsung and I have to agree, the smoothing on that TV is far superior to any other TV I have seen. You are right that it doesn't do that wierd sped up look. Everything is just silky smooth with no jittering when panning across landscapes, etc. Cost me a fortune, but its a nice TV!

F8500 is a nice TV. but I'm looking for a 50-55in in the 1-1.5k range tops! Seems like the Panny Plasma are up there in terms of picture. What else is out there in that size/price range that is as good? maybe?Amazon.com: Samsung UN55F6400 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz 3D Slim Smart LED HDTV: Electronics

You can't beat the Panasonic Plasmas for quality, especially at this price range. Go with one and you won't be disappointed. They are the best reviewed TVs out there and the videophile forums love them for good reason. Everything Column says should be ignored outright.

I was up bestbuy about to pull the trigger on the ST50 and the dude talked me out of it. He was like its obvious you did your research. The panny plasmas are the best TVs we have but since they stopped making them you might be able to get a sweet deal on a VT or ZT when they come off the wall. I'm going wait a week or 2 and see what I can find.

ces is jan 7 - 10th, all the new TV models are intro'd then and the older models start discounted, plus you can see if anything new and great is coming out (not really... probably just hdmi 2.0 compatible TVs that do 4k @ 60hz and more vapor announcements of OLED TVs)

if you are an average joe who just wants to watch some football, movies, and TV in your living room while your wife yells at the kids than any TV will be fine, the samsung and vizio's at Costco are great deals. Plasma is great but is a tech that is being retired, I am never comfortable buying something that is going away but to each his own. here again is a good article detailing the diffs

If you can get a VT or a ZT for an awesome deal you should jump right on it.

That's my new plan.. I'll wait a few weeks and camp out a few places for one to drop. Worst case is I get a ST for a really good deal. Spronk is right.. After CES will be a good time.

Yeah 1420 is good for that TV, and you said you are used to having a Plasma set so that should be the best choice for you.
In that price range it would just be between the Sony KDL-55W900A 55-Inch 240Hz ,and the VT.

And for other people, please don't purchase anything blindly.

Go to a Best Buy store with a Magnolia setup, and they have all the best TVs sided by side calibrated.
You can see the same tests running across all the panels.

Plasmas and LED both have there cons ,and pros. So just have to look at them in person to make sure that is what you want.
Buying something because it's the so called Videophile choice is a bad move.

If you want the very best TV of 2013 ,and had to narrow them down to a list

LED = 65 inch F8000
Plasma = ZT 65 inch ( the ZT is significantly better in person then the VT despite what the reviewers say)

Best gaming set = Sony 55W900A 55 inch

The only other TV i liked besides the ZT was the Samsung 8000. Just too much $$ for what I need. They were all hanging up in the Magnolia room.. I think a big issue with Plasmas and a reason why people don't buy them is they need to be calibrated to really get the best picture.. some people just take them home and turn them on lol. Plus they don't have that brightness people want in their LEDs..

I've been looking to replace my 37" Toshiba LCD for a while and wanted something around the 60" range. I kept going back and forth between plasma and led and decided for what I use a tv for led is the way to go. Still to many posts of burn in and image retention on plasmas. I game a lot and tend to leave a game paused for long periods of time. I just didn't want to deal with all the break in/babying that plasmas require.

After much research I ended up with the 60" Vizio 61I-A3 from Walmart. $788 plus $99 for a 3 year warranty. Picture is great once you tweak it a bit. Has a 31ms input lag which is pretty good. I'm happy with what I got. I couldn't see dropping $1500+ on a tv when it seems like even the high end Panny's and Samsungs have their fair share of screen defects and problems. It's like playing the lottery finding a tv that is close to perfect. Seems like its all about what your willing to live with. Feathering, clouding, flash light effect, banding, light bleed, dead pixels, all the name brand panels have these issues.

Just when i decided to get the Panasonic Plasma 50 inch, i found them to be out of order everywhere. i was so sad, I ended with a samsung One.

BTW anyone knows how to get the APP sounds out to an external home theater?

2 things.. For the burn in.. It's really a non issue after the first 100 hours from what I can gather.. I'm one of those that actually put up the extra $$ for a BB warranty tho. They take TVs back for issues like that.. Not that I think there will be one. I was more worries about the panel issues and after dealing with Panasonic support I like the convenience of bypassing them and using BB ever during the first year. I gamed on my first Plasma. Just need to not pause it for hours early in it's life. I paused mine overnight once and it was fine.

Lendarios- Thhat sucks. BB and sears have the 50in ST Panny for $999. There is still time to replace!

I contacted the Fufillers for Amazon directly, and that's where i found Paulstv

Paul's TV - Plasma & LED TVs, Home Theater, Speakers, Washers, Dryers, Blenders, and More

These guys are the best, not only do they match all prices. They will still honor prices from last black friday/cyber monday, and will sell you sets that have never let there wharehouse as an open box even though its never been opened.
This is important because some manufacturers will not let vendors list tvs under there set prices.Samsung does this for instance.

My 65 inch f8000 was listed at 2900, and they sold it to me for 2150 with no sales tax, and free white gloves shipping. Came in perfect, no panel issues whatsoever, and I've seen the horror stories on AVS.
