I can hear it at about 19000hz (it's extremely annoying) and I've had loud car audio setups my entire life.

Well, fuck you.

I hear "natural" hearing loss (ie, just aging not "damaged") peaks in one's late 60's, so my goal is to hold solid to 10k or hopefully better till 70. For reference, my dad is 82 and his cuts out at 4k in both ears. It's fine for conversation, but noisy environments do not work, and music has to be simple.

I'm not 60 yet, but I'm shouting distance if I yell real loud. Happy listening!

I've had the white Game Zero's since 2014 and while the leather has worn and is starting to flake off I've had zero issues with them, fantastic PC gaming headset especially for comfort and weight

edit: lols pretty sure I started this thread cause of that headset actually
Yea Game Zeros are pretty good too but the cloth cups on the Ones make it better for me. Less hot.

I would guess concerts, clubs and airports/airplanes are way more damaging to your hearing as those are way way beyond any actual "musical" setups you'd do at home/car.

Need to buy a new pair of headphones. The DT 990 Pros were causing a bald spot on the side of my head where the slide assembly was touching.

Last I checked, Sennheiser 650's were the best for the ~$400 range, assuming you have a good DAC and driver for them(I have the modi 2 and magni pair). Is this still the case or has something supplanted them?

Yeah. The HiFiman Sundara's at that price point. I no longer own any Sennheiser products. Not because they are bad, but because the HiFiman just sound better to me. Especially if you will use them for gaming. The sound stage is just better overall on the Hifiman's.

The build quality is waaaay better on the Sennheisers. German vs Chinese. Take a guess who wins that in anything. I've had the HE5LE's for almost 10 years. So we aren't talking about them breaking or anything. But you might be tightening a screw every couple years. The HE560's like a year or two...no problems also.

Purely based on sound, and for gaming.

I own the HE560's. Replaced my HD700's

Sennheisers have been top of the heap level mics and headphones for decades. IMO sometimes part of the fun is experiencing a piece of history. If I didn't have grado's I'd be coveting a top-end sennheiser pair of headphones, personally. In fact I need to stop thinking about this thread right now.

Volume controls. How do they work?

4h90jn.jpg

That my integratd's volume control. no numerical readout, no marks around the dial, just a little indentation on the dial. My dad asked me how I know to set volume levels where I do.

He was over to give a listen today with his mighty 4k-capped octogenarian hearing -- worked the line for the Navy in the 50's at San Diego. One of his jobs was to climb up on the wing and lean out and check the intakes for any fluid leaks as the plans lined up to go. Thank you for your service. He probably gave up a lot of cilia for Uncle Sam.

He suggested I put some marks or a piece of tape if I don't want to mark it up permanently. That way I could nail down the sweet spots volume-wise.

I said to him, but dad, then the marks would nail me down, wouldn't they?

Then I played him Sinatra's Ebb Tide, one of his faves.

Was browsing around and stumbled upon Steel Series Arctis 9 that seems to have been released a few weeks ago. Looking to replace my aging Logitech G935.

Anyone tested them or heard anything about them?

Look just like my Arctis Pro Wireless which I like a lot but without the base station so no dual batteries for swapping. For strictly listening I think there would be better options at $200 unless these have better sound than the Arctis Pro's from a place like drop.

still psyched for the new setup. here is afternoon sun. if you've only lived in a hotter and more southerly climate, you have no idea how priceless a large southern exposure window is. This is how I will spend many icy days soon enough:

Different question. I'm WFH permanently so buying some things. The headset dell gives us is super shitty and wired. Can anyone recommend a good headset for calls? Preferably wireless with a dongle

Damn you guys.

Today my HD58X and PC38X showed up. I'm checking out the 58X with some EQ settings I found on the interwebs, I'm loving this.

This may have been posted but just in case it hasn't HERE

That link has EQ setups for 2400 different headphones that is updated in real time for peak listening awesomeness. It works great with EQ APO.

they had all 5 versions of my Grado's fully measured out. Three of them, the only difference is which option of foam earpads you are using.

Damn. What a hoot!

edit: I have one pair. SR-325's. I do not have all five versions lol.
