I'm now part of the crew! I've realized why people love these audiophile setups, now I'm looking into getting a set of cans specifically for music.

Yeah, I'm wanting this kind of audio quality when I go for rides on my motorcycle. It's not feasible or safe to attempt but a boy can dream.

Be careful with the hearing. Mine is solid up to 14k on the left, and 13k on the right. I stopped abusing my ears in my mid 20's and I wear earplugs in noisy environments. I wear plugs on long car rides even.

Test that frequency range! The high frequencies are the first to go. My hearing is fine. Not excellent, but fine. Enough that I really, really, really do not want to lose any more of it.

Note: DO NOT turn the volume up so you can hear! Set your volume to "conversational" level. Then do a test and see if you have any loss at the top end, or notches in the rest of the range. Lots of other hearing resources out there. Your ears are the final musical instrument in the chain, is how I look at it.

Part 1 or 2. So, the left channel came back today REPAIRED on the mighty vintage BAT:
20171210_164544.thumb.jpg.21dd0b5832f6b9c49da1a689221702d9.jpg

250wpc, true dual mono, fully balanced. Also, ~150 pounds. This is what it looks on the inside:
20171210_165303.thumb.jpg.b258d8b11c9994c81e4e47e1262088b1.jpg

Each of those transformers are like 30 pounds. It is a tank. Spent all day slinging that thing around, re-assembling it, got it set up.

Left channel blew its fuse. The circuit board panel did not blow its fuses, so that means it got repaired, just something is still not right. Drag! So now it's back to my modest setup, which uses....

I've been listening at conservative levels for awhile now. Thanks for the heads up doe.

The mighty vintage Audiolab 8000a! These things are brilliant little 55 watt jewels. Cost $850 in 1991. They re-sell for 400-500. I highly recommend it: this thing has been in steady use for almost 30 years! A slim front and only 25 pounds:
audiolab_8000a_integrated_amplifier.jpg

And take a look at the guts!

There are two power transistors per channel. The BAT has 24. Stone simple. And yeah, that single transformer probably weight 5 pounds. But anyone can repair these, and they are cheep to repair, and it has a great slim look.

But I can't play VH "Everybody Wants Some" at realiztic volumes with the Audiolab :(

First world troubles! So it's back to the brit integrated till I get my main rig sorted.

yup ). Styling early 80's shit paneling too. Not even vintage. I've gone rental out in the country. Bye bye Cleveland. And next time I buy a property, it's mountains time.

That is a southern exposure window tho. NW PA winters and that window runs the length of that wall. Sun is liquid gold during winter :)

The speakers are 30 day money back. Direct from the company. $650. If anyone here has some cash, and likes stereo listenin', and has never heard planar speakers.... if you like them, you will really like them, let's put it that way.

Where did you get that mack ass chair? When I think of $700 speakers the first thing that comes to mind are grade school folding chairs. At least bring in some old school Pier One import chair in there.

My dear friend and fellow music lover. That is a 1974 Samsonite model 5611.

All welded joints. Double strut back legs. Triple hinged seat-to-frame design (and confidence). Classic "floating backrest" design, again, all secured with welded parts.

It is quiet as a tomb. It does not wobble. Samsonite supplied folding chairs to the military during WW 2, where a creak or a squeak at the wrong time could cost lives. Samsonite folding chairs were used at Mission Control during the Apollo era. Buzz Aldrin tried to take one to the Moon.

Looks like Drop advertised a new PC38x, if it's under budget I'll have to snag one.

I can hear it at about 19000hz (it's extremely annoying) and I've had loud car audio setups my entire life.

Sold my Sennheiser HD700's since I find myself always using my HiFi-man HE560's. Wanted a wireless headset. Snagged the Corsair Virtuoso's for a couple hundred. They're good-great.

Sound quality wise for a wireless headset, I will give them a 9/10. I can not tell the difference between wired and wireless! Good tight bass 9/10. Highs are good-great 8/10. Mids are great 9/10. Soundstage is great using stereo 8/10. Mic is OK-good 7/10.

Would recommend if you're in the game for wireless headset. Will be keeping these.

How heavy are they? I'd rather have a wireless headset but my problem in the past with them has always been too heavy and uncomfortable for long sessions
In my quest to find a comfortable wireless headset last year I went through 8 pairs probably, and those Corsair's came out right about that time. The problem is my head is huge, and so they don't actually fit me. The Razer NAVI headset was what I thought was the most comfortable, but I realized after 2 hours of wearing them that their huge weight really sucked. Those virtuoso are way lighter, and not as bad.

Those are the Massdrop version of the Game One's, which is an amazing headset. Still have my pair and use them as my travel pair.

Need to buy a new pair of headphones. The DT 990 Pros were causing a bald spot on the side of my head where the slide assembly was touching.

Last I checked, Sennheiser 650's were the best for the ~$400 range, assuming you have a good DAC and driver for them(I have the modi 2 and magni pair). Is this still the case or has something supplanted them?

I've had the white Game Zero's since 2014 and while the leather has worn and is starting to flake off I've had zero issues with them, fantastic PC gaming headset especially for comfort and weight

edit: lols pretty sure I started this thread cause of that headset actually
