I did not check Drop, thanks for the suggestion. But I did come across that product elsewhere. Part of the issue is that searching for Bluetooth leads to false positives. A lot of DACs will receive Bluetooth, especially those of the portable variety, which this one is. I would like one that can take a signal in from a variety of digital sources and then transmit it to a Bluetooth device.

This part in product spec makes me think it cannot transmit Bluetooth:
  • Input: USB, Bluetooth
  • Outputs: 3.5 mm unbalanced, 2.5 mm balanced

They had a few others listed as bluetooth but I'd trust their sources/specs over others. That was just the first one I saw.

I was just thinking more about your predicament and my guess would be they don't offer bluetooth connections to the headsets since they wouldn't be able to improve the sound wirelessly maybe? I could see people throwing a fit about something like that even if it did connect wirelessly.

Maybe, but DACs have offered coaxial out forever. That's functionally a digital passthrough similar to what I'm looking for.

Don't buy the ifi Zen Blue 3. I'd actually say don't buy any ifi products, but I haven't sampled enough of their products(1!) to be sure of that. 2 dealbreakers when trying out this piece of shit:

The USB chip will eagerly go to sleep if not streamed any sound. Like, ~1 second. It then takes a few seconds of sound for it to wake up. For example, the "test" dings in the Windows sound settings are almost always silent. Annoying for music and video, dealbreaker for notifications. This seems to be a well known issue with some/all XMOS USB chips. There's multiple threads on various forums even detailing a fix. But you need access to the USB drivers to do that and I can't seem to figure that out for this specific product.

The entire device itself will go to sleep after ~10 minutes of inactivity. And will NOT wake up with activity. It has to be manually woken up with the power button.

This is a desktop device(it has a power brick...), yet its software seems to be designed for mobile use.

I guess back to using my Fiio E10 for now. Any recommendations for a USB DAC not from Schiit or ifi? Doesn't need to have a bluetooth transmitter, that was just a nice bonus.

Another update, the support at ifi was actually useful and resolved the issue by recommending SoundKeeper. Posting it here because thought might be useful for others. The audio delay issue due to various components going to sleep seems to be rather common.

So, you keep them awake 24/7 essentially. It's stupid that such a workaround is necessary, but whatever. It's a really lightweight application, so I don't mind it.

After 7 years my loyal gaming headset has died. RIP turtle beach. Time for a new one and I am more than open to trying a new brand. Anyone have recommendations? I mostly use my headset for Discord, gaming, watching TV and such.

I am looking for the following;

- Wired, USB connection
- I don't want to spend more than $300
- Durable as I don't want to buy another for at least 5 years.
- Detachable/replaceable mic.

- Edit: Also closed back.

Thanks Boyos!

What's the best wireless headset? Saw Maxwell Audeze was popular for a bit but there were some drawbacks with that style of driver. Last wireless ones I tried were logitechs like 10 years ago, they kept dropping so been using some Sennheisers with a modmic since.

Be aware that wireless headsets are a few degrees hotter than wired headsets. I don't remember exactly how much, but I found some measurements when I was looking and it seemed like it would be noticeable. My ears run hot though, so I made it a point to filter for coolness (and I didn't care if it had a mic, so it doesn't have one (Philips X2HR)).

Closed back meaning more isolating? Hate my headset because i can hear noises in my room like I'm not wearing anything.

Yes, closed back will significantly reduce outside sound from bleeding in. IMO this is a must have.

Open back headsets have the mesh like below.

If you grab the same one I got, invest in Micro USB Cable 15FT. The stock cable is verrry short. Also keep in mind this uses a proprietary 8 pin cord from the headset to GameDAC.
How much you pay, appears to be on sale 163, but not sure if that's bull shit normal prices.

Still annoyed got a sound blaster dac recommended here last year, certified refurb. Died like a month after limited warranty
