Had a sore throat (pretty bad) for two weeks now.

I actually went to the doctor because I was worried it was strep, negative on that.

The only other thing I can think is maybe mono? But I haven't really had any other symptoms - and I was very sick with a cold/flu for awhile.

At my wits end with this. I realize I'm posting this sandwiched between cancer and rare skin diseases

Not looking to downplay it but that sounds like what was going around the Northeast all winter. Was especially wicked and followed that pattern while lasting for like a month more or less.

No I mean, in the grand scheme is it minor. I worried about strep only because I don't want to give it to my kids - and mono would be a pretty shit thing to pass on. Though I suppose if I had mono that damage is already done.

Yeah something like that is going around here too. My chemo last week lowered my immune system enough that I finally caught it, but I've got family that had been doing it for awhile before then. It went away for me when my immune system kicked back. Definitely sucked tho, not being able to swallow when I first wake up and etc

I'm having some PTSD from a code yesterday. First time starting at 0400 (love that night differential pay...) and at 0630, patient came in with her daughter (pt was the mother - mid 50s) with nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. I peered at her emesis bag and saw that it was green and bubbly; likely bile so I wasn't too concerned. As I was dropping a line in one of our frequent fliers who this particular time came in with hypoxemia (saturating in the 60s on room air) and drawing blood, I heard yells from the other side of the room saying the patient was unresponsive.

Patient had her eyes rolled in the back of her head, not moving. We feel for a femoral and carotid pulse -- can't feel anything. We lay her supine and she's agonal breathing. We begin doing compressions and literally a volcano of bright red blood begins to pour out of her mouth. I can't get her face out of my head as we perfused her just enough for her to try and fight the compressions, only to fall unresponsive again during pulse/rhythm checks, only to have her fight compressions again.

I've seen some fucked up shit and I've heard that this can happen. But, jesus...it is not pretty seeing it in person.

Went to Doctor today because of pain when breathing

EKG says I have some type of abnormality and they recommended I go to ER right away

So here I am waiting on tests that can hopefully determine what’s going on, with one possibility being a heart attack, so yay

Unlikely heart attack. A heart alert is similar to that of a stroke: time is heart/brain. Last thing we want is further ischemia leading to further infarction. If it showed even an NSTEMI (non-ST elevation heart attack), you would likely be placed on a Heparin drip within ~45 minutes.

When I went to the ER about my heart rate sticking around 130+ ( no longer that bad ), the admitted nurse asked me if I felt like I was having a heart attack. Told her I had no idea, never had one. She didn't like that answer. I didn't know what else to say really.

When I got a pneumonia vaccine and was standing in line to check out my vision went black and I got wobbly. They checked my heart and there was weird shit going on. Said it might've been a mini heart attack and I had to go to the specialists. It wasnt in the end, just weird shit from passing out from a vaccine.

I mapped my symtpoms on a calendar. I got sick the week before March 30th, got better on March 30th then Monday was extremely sick. And have had the sore throat since. Had aches for a couple weeks too but figured it was the cold.

At this point I'm very sure it's mono. I mean I'm not even coughing and I'm waking up daily with an awful sore throat. It's not strep so ubless I have cancer...

Noodle, you likely vaso-vagaled after the vaccine. Happens mostly to people getting blood draws, but it can happen with vaccine administrations, too.

The weather's been turning down here.

I was under the weather two of the past five days. Throat and sinus. Stupid pollen.

Is it still like minus 200 in mass?

I had my follow up with the urologist today and the stone is nowhere to be found on the xray. Going to do an ultrasound to look for it just to make sure it's gone. Fingers crossed.

Last night pain was pretty immense. Felt like the left side of my throat had an open ulcer or something. Not even sure if that can happen, but it was burning/throbbing. Today still hurt but felt.a lot better. It's worse at night.

I could get a mono test but pretty sure I'm over.the worst of it

Might be worth seeing a doctor. I once had strep/tonsilitis so badly that I couldn't swallow to eat or drink for several days. Apparently it weakened my immune system enough that I got a secondary fungal infection on my tonsils. I finally went to the campus doctor (was in college) after I looked in the mirror and saw big jet black spots in my throat. Doc took one look inside and said, "Wow! I've never seen that before!!"

Not words you want to hear from your physician.

I did go and when it came back negative for strep they basically said "yeah it's probably just your cough and post nasal drip". Ok sure... But I've been sick for a month????

Have you tried the home remedies?

Gargling some hot salt water.

What it sounds like is you have a persistent irritant. With the weather changing that could be pollen or dry air. It could also be a non strep infection.

Whatever it is is persistent because it should heal in 3-5 days.

If you don't need antibiotics you don't want them. You said your pinkeye was viral, not bacterial. There is a short path from your eyes to your throat.

Don't go down on your lady for three days. If she's even been letting you, typhoid mary.

So to follow up: spent full two days in hospital.

Multiple blood tests, stress EKG, echocardiogram, contrast CT scan

Best they can figure is i had some inflammation in lungs caused by residual effects of a strep infection several weeks ago (i did have some similar problems breathing the same way around that time)

theres also a small possibility that the CT scan found some sort of rare bacterial infection, but they had to draw blood before discharging me and would let me know if they find anything

bottom line: all tests so far indicate im in no immediate jeopardy, i dont have anything actively contagious and prob just need to wait out the inflammation
