Just played my first arena, as mage: zero fireballs, frostbolts or flamestrikes. Predictably went 1-3.

Oh yeah, zero polys too.

BTW how does matchmaking work in arena? Is there a hidden MMR again?

So I got my first 12 wins run with a druid deck with two claws as my only removal... I have been averaging 6-7 wins before that. My last three drafts since have now been 1-2 and done. I must have leveled up in matchmaking!

I actually did run into a deck like that but was able to top deck that Pyroblast at the right time to suck out a win.

3 wins and then ran into another Mage with an even better deck. Plus I mulliganed incorrectly. Mirror Image is a bit more 'meh' than I had in my mind when I drafted it. I'm thinking I need to play it more as a mid or end game speed bump for my opponent and/or as a guard for a good creature rather than as an opener. I need to mulligan it out of an opening hand I think.

Hopefully I can get more wins this time. My second draft ever I got 7 wins and haven't done it again since. Gotten 6 a few times though.
Pyroblast is pretty clutch in arena

I think you can never underestimate strong tempo in a draft, it's nice having 2 swipes, 2 starfalls and 2 4/6 taunt druids, but you will still get rolled if you get even a bit worse draw simply because it's too late to recover. Possible exceptions are paladins and priests with healing. And you never know if the other guy drafted a Black Knight and is about to topdeck it to kill that Sunwalker that you thought saved your life :p

11-3 on this Paladin draft. Lost to 2 mages and then lost on my very last game to a Paladin who drew better cards than me. Was so close to the 12th win I could taste it, and it hurt that much more losing in my last win or go home match.
That's actually a pretty impressive score with that deck.

I'm starting to think casual is actually a lot more casual since open beta. Running dailies, prime time especially, starting to see more people running some pretty bad decks/cards.

I think I agree with this. Tempo tempo tempo. When drafting, trying to find that perfect balance between good cards and a good mana curve is practically the whole kit and caboodle.

I just learned a valuable lesson. Always kill the 4-2 draw a card when shit dies guy, even if it seems beneficial to go to the face and they have no other creatures on the board and you can kill him even if they play a taunter the next turn. I just got raped by a beast deck in arena when he played starving buzzard, unleash the hounds, timberwolf, then raped my whole board and drew like 10 cards. By the way, unleash the hounds should NOT trigger starving buzzard, what a stupid combo.

Needless to say I lost that game.

Hunters don't run much that requires hard removal (in constructed). Save it for Buzzard. In arena just kill it however you can. Card advantage is massively important in Hearthstone, don't let your opponent draw cards.

Unless they let their hand get over full and you can make them burn cards. Best feeling in the world when they have like 9 cards in hand and an Acolyte of Pain on the board. Tap it three times. As a Priest I even healed one once and kept hitting it. I think I made him burn like five cards, which in arena is death.

Well, smart hunters keep buzzard in their hand and cast it when they uth, but yeah if you're still alive afterwards you absolutely have to kill the buzzard or his card advantage will run all over you.

Huh.

I normally resist playing paladin in arena even though I've liked the theory part. Take one (no mage, no priest... my usuals) and go a fairly easy 12 wins. It (Pally12 - Imgur) honestly didn't seem that great to me but I only lost one and it was the usual shit draw, shit redraw, rushed down thing that is just the way it goes.

Much love for some of the pally cards, even if the class does still feel too much "win more" for my taste.

BoK is one of the most powerful arena cards. Surprised you went 12-1 with only one Consecrate, no TSC, and no Equality, though you did have a nice curve.

Yeah, Tirion is power for sure but he only really won me one game iirc and 'won' is a bit strong even then. BoK likely one or two (that I probably would have won anyhow) but mostly it was just having a decent curve and decent cards to play.

Won most of them with 30 life left having played a control/kill-all-minions strat. I was delaying but ended up more often than not killing them off before it got too late. Hell, bloodknight, golem, alch and MCT were my strongest cards as it turned out. (Actually, the giants did flat out win one and likely two, although I didn't get low life too often... such a money card!)
