The problem I have with Hearthstone is the complete lack of matchmaking on Blizzards part for "casual" play. Every friend I have tried to get into the game starts to play and gets absolutely annihilated by people with full gold onyxia etc having decks straight out of the gate. Not every game mind you, but often enough that even the simple quests take 6-10 games to accomplish... and they have long since given up by that point.

This, of course, sets up a selection effect whereby the only people playing are the experienced ones and the barrier to entry becomes steeper day by day.

Yeah casual needs a major fucking overhaul. Just because there's nothing at stake doesn't make it "casual".

No doubt. When I picked up Magic again last year and bought a couple boxes, my buddy kept his deck purposefully toned down because, even though our kitchen table games are very 'casual', I didn't want to have to go up against his insane big money constructed decks or it would no fun at all and I wouldn't have gotten back into Magic in the first damn place. Same thing happening here.

What do you guys think of Priest? I just started the game and as far as I can tell I play a control Priest. All my games are long and I basically try to keep the enemy down and get a card advantage. Does it make any sense for the more experienced players or am I wasting my time with it?

I like priest but I don't grind for Legendary or anything.

You can damn near make a Priest deck to counter anything, but that's the problem with Priest; you'll only end up countering that one deck and get raped by everyone else. They have problems with aggro since their early game is abysmal, and they'll have problems with control since most other control decks are later or just flat out better at what they do.

And speaking of casual, I had a friend who just started and Priest is his favorite class. He was lucky enough to snag a Gold Sylvannas in a pack but her and Rag are pretty much the only legendaries he has. So using Reynad's Zoo as inspiration, I made him a tempo Priest deck and he says he wins 60% or more when he goes into the casuals with it.

If you want to ladder with Priest just go in knowing it'll take you longer to climb than almost any other class.

I agree with them needing to fix the casual mode. I almost feel bad when I have a Warlock daily quest and I use my Murloc deck in there.

I'd be in favor of a "Basics Only" queue. I think it'd be a lot of fun and it would definitely help the newer players out with learning basic mechanics. Plus, I'd get a place to show off my gold Stormwind Champions.

I've been trying to build a control paladin deck for a while that is somewhat competitive and I have finally found a setup that has allowed me to rank up higher than I have been before. I really like the playstyle of the paladin and this deck is a blast to play vs other control decks. It still loses to a lot of aggro but oh well.

I've been trying Reynad's Zoo deck and I really don't like it. When it works, it works really well but it falls apart a lot. I know that Zoo isn't an Aggro deck but the meta is so anti-aggro right now that everyone's deck, in Casual, is built to counter Hunters. Those same decks that counter Hunter also counter Zoo.

Just not a deck I care for. Didn't craft any cards for it so no big loss.

Depends on the meta. Lock aggro does worse against the random anti-aggro garbage people come up with to try and beat hunter, but it does a lot better vs control warrior and druid than hunter does.

I lose every game as control warrior vs aggro lock, but then I win every game against aggro hunter so I guess it evens out.

New Season tomorrow. It looks like the Pandaria Card Back is going to be the "welfare" back since it only takes rank 20 to get (but isn't awarded until the end of the season).

For myself, I've entered a new phase of the game. I'm in "do dailies and hoard gold" mode right now. I don't have all of the cards: I'm currently missing 10 rares, 32 epics (which includes the parrots from the pirates) and 19 Legendary Cards for a full set. I define a full set as being 2 of each non-Legendary cards and 1 of each Legendary cards. Lots of missing epics but most of them are trash (for example, my only Warlock epic is a single Twisting Nether). If I disenchant all of my duplicate stuff, I've got around 700 dust. So I'm at the stage where I'll just hoard gold for an eventual expansion that should be released sometime in 2018.
