Wow, viewer numbers are really bad... also hadn't realized until today how many washed up SC2 players are on these teams.
Most of these teams are nothing more than PR for Blizzcon. Fnatic has outright said they're disbanding this team after Blizzcon and EG has been very non-committal. I assume C9 will as well.

Ahh makes sense... match was pretty boring to me. Disappointing that the team that PvE'd and ratted harder won, while the one that went for kills lost.

We'll see in like 6+ months how the game develops.

Fnatic didn't execute the gameplan very well. If you go for that aggressive kill focused style you need way more than 2 kills like they got. They were running around more time than actually accomplishing anything. I'm surprised the early game was even that close.

Still doesn't bode well when hearthstone had 100k+ viewers for its pr tournament last blizzcon.

I heard they made some changes like all towers give xp now (the towers before forts), did I hear them say this is in now? Are they playing on special servers at blizzcon or is it live in game as well? I think I'll really like the change as one of people's complaint is even winning a lane it isn't very rewarding. I've been in some games where I've "won" my lane, as in I destroyed both towers, but if both other lanes were lost you get no real advantage from it as you likely won't even be able to push the fort for a long time; so hopefully this helps that.

And on that front I consider the forts and keeps the real towers if we're trying to compare this to a traditional 3lane moba. They are much harder to take and generally involve more risk due to the choke created by the towers and walls. I feel if towers starting giving XP then that would only further increase the strength of doom push lineups which are already pretty popular at the moment. Suddenly a Zag would basically start the game with their team at an advantage because despite your best efforts you won't stop her from taking towers.

I believe the reason on the sand map they were giving XP was to try and give a bonus to the team holding the objective point

Finals pre-show is on.

I didn't know C9 beat TL. Pretty big upset. TL has been looking good recently.

Good execution by C9. EG tried the new-meta way of playing the map where you basically spread out throughout the mines to take the small creeps for skulls and not really concern yourself with 1-2 getting killed because you can get half the skulls quick and easy then you merc. But C9 deathballed the mines and after the first mines they were just destroying EG in the mines. They weren't getting anywhere close to the required ~50 to run the style.

I've never seen a pro match of Heroes yet, but that was pretty intense. Really close up until that first dragon knight which came pretty late in the game, then EG just seemed to fall apart.

Late game dragon knights do a ton of damage. Literally hit for over 1k per swing on towers and keeps and about 600 on heroes. For reference a normal heroes auto attack will be doing about 250-300 at this time.

So the first games I've managed to spectate, I was surprised at how slow the on screen action felt to me. Those early game hooks were nice, but seemingly meaningless, Once EG fell behind by 1 total level the game seemed completely out of hand. The only metric the spectator screen emphasized was hero levels. And it seemed like it was really the only important thing. Game time, state of other features like hero ultimates, or the exact duration/respawn of the dragon all seemed to not really matter.

The spell animations I understood by their visuals were the hook, psi storm, and Arthas Army of the Dead/Consumption for 2x total health. Arthas's army consumption skill seemed like it was the only important skill in the second game. EG initiates on Arthas, Arthas runs around for 10 seconds, then eats ghouls to heal, by this time all mounted allies show up - eventually c9 wins fight.

Arthas is very good -- probably too good. For his actual ult mechanic he summons his army of ghouls. He can sacrifice these ghouls for ~450HP per ghoul. I can't recall exactly how many are spawned. There are really two ways of dealing with them and neither are just all out focusing Arthas. You can AOE to kill his ghouls. They have HP bars and they're not massive. The other way is to CC Arthas so he can't actually use the consume skill. If you don't handle him correctly he can, in fact, appear immortal. He also has a level 7 talent called "Rune Tap" which every third hit heals him for (iirc) 7% [edit- I think 7% was pre-nerf it is now 4%] his HP. He has fantastic sustain.

And also like I just saw Arthas is terrible at finishing the core. The core does AOE and just annihilates his ghouls.

So Zuna couldn't make it in league so went over to HoTS eh? I tell you what, that was certainly more interesting to watch than I expected especially since I have yet to get in and be able to play it. Will be fun to see where this heads and who becomes interested from a pro/sponsor level in the long run.

C9 was a bunch of ex League people. Kind of like EG was mostly ex StarCraft. The best team in the game (SMG) wasn't even there and they're only the best because of limited player pool.

The only other one I thought was familiar was Jintae and Bobbyhankhill (who didn't really do anything at all? if I remember). Ah, probably why I didn't know any of the EG people. Just interesting to me as I feel they aren't good enough to compete in what use to be their main game so it is like they moved on and are trying again.

Pretty much everyone there was just in it for a free trip to Blizzcon. These weren't even the best HotS games I've seen. And from what I heard Bobby almost qualified for LCS. C9 even had a fill in Bischu was supposed to be on their team who is another ex League guy.

Like I said these games were just PR with names trying to get eyes on the game

Well ya, but they aren't even good PR. Bischu certainly would have been a better name but the rest are pretty irrelevant these days. I have no idea about the Starcraft guys. I don't even think any of those ex league players stream. I guess my point is they have no following and are nobody both in league and outside so for it to be a PR sham (which I agree with you on that) you would think they would have tried to get better people. Maybe I am just mad at these stupid ass LSU receivers dropping all these passes ATM.

There was Idra, what else do you need?

I watched a couple of games but they were pretty boring. I guess I'm biased since I don't really like playing the game myself much but I can still watch League and enjoy it, HotS so far I've found to be pretty boring to watch. Lack of like, personnal stats and stuff maybe. Like you can't check the "top lane duel" or how much cs that Terrorblade has at 30mins, so it feels more dull. Yay teamfights all the time but like no power spikes in them, like you know, oh shit that AP guy just got his deathfiredagonthingie or Ogre got his agh, next teamfight is gonna be way different now, it's all kinda the same once everyone has their ults. You get abilities upgrades and while they do have a noticeable impact on personnal performance, I don't feel they have as much of an impact as a big item pickup right before a teamfight(especially in dota, stuff like agh or bkb can change a teamfight entirely).

So yeah I guess the reasons I don't like playing the game also bleed into reasons I don't like watching the game. Didn't help the players looked awful, but then again it's hard to have a good tournament when your competitive scene is at the moment completely strangled by "design" decisions due to the early state of the game(stuff like not having private game for a while and still very closed beta).

Can't decide what I want to do with my first 10k after buying tassadar. Do I strike the nova iron while she's still hot, or do I go with a solid hero like stiches, and then I've always liked nazeebo for some reason.
