With the new characters just around the corner (probably?) I think a safe bet would be to save another 10k-20k from dailies between now and January, wait to see if nova gets nerfed into dust next patch, and then go hog wild with 2-3 big buys all at once. I want to buy nova but with how many tears are being shed over her on official forums, I feel like a nerf is inevitable...and we all know how blizzard tends to overnerf.

If you really want Nova and are willing to spend a bit of cash she's in that bundle with quite a few heroes. Get a skin for her as well. Personally I think if you play Nova you should be hanged but thats just me.

I hadn't played Brightwing post-nerf and my god she's still just as strong as ever. As long as you aren't afraid to just auto attack into a minion wave while hawking the minimap. I'm still trying to figure out the best circumstances and situations for my level 4 talent. Right now I basically choose between Anti-Magic Powder if a Nova is around or Envenom if I feel we can get some favorable early game blinks. I still like Blink Heal over Emerald Winds. I was surprised I was still getting 100k+ healing on most games since the nerf to level 7.
Just noticed I have access to this Alpha. I played about 10 games so far, and I am loving the game. Add me for some group play, I could use the XP boost: Myst#1785.

I'm thinking more maps, more heroes, and just a tightening of all the systems in general will add a lot.
Playing a bunch with Ohmgee, we've basically decided that the game would be more fun with 2 lanes max (the 3 lane maps aren't fun at all) and either straight up removing the main map mechanic (Dragon Shrines, Coin Collecting, etc.), greatly lowering its impact or only allowing the objective to be completed by killing the enemy team.
As is, laning is the least fun component of the game, followed by a team that dodges fights and just aims for map objectives to win through PvE.

This game is really fun when your team is good.. and really not fun when your team sucks. It's rare that there's an evenly matched game... it's usually a slaughter one way or the other.
Apparently they should be a balance patch soon which also comes with Jaina. Word is they're trying to nerf the 100% pick/ban heroes and Nova. So expect nerfs to Tychus, Arthas, Tassadar, possibly Abathur, Uther, maybe Brightwing.
You can just start playing this game. Honestly having no notion of previous mobas doesn't put you at a massive disadvantage since this one's tempo is completely different. If you are looking to get into DOTA or League you should ask in those threads but, yes, they are pretty newbie adverse and it takes a long time to play them even at a fairly basic level.

I have been playing the Alpha some over the last week or two and I really have mixed feelings on it. The game itself can be fun but with how dumbed down it is vs other Moba's (No last hitting, No items, XP team wide) it feels a bit hollow at times.
The characters are actually pretty fun although there are some mechanics that are just fucked. Stealth is one of the biggest offenders since in other games you can at least get items to counteract. The reason Nova seems so broke is the burst she can put out even if you know she is there and it's coming sometimes there isn't shit you can do about it.
Gold acquisition seems low as fuck too, I like Dota2's model of giving you all heros and allowing you to buy cosmetic shit, but also giving you the chance to earn items here and there. In HoTS you get fuck all which is kind of off putting. I think I have earned about 15k gold and a good portion of that was from the leveling up process, at 20-30g a game it takes 400 games averaging 25g a game to buy a top tier hero. That seems beyond fucked.
Still it's a cool enough way to kill some time so if we have a few guys on here playing this shit feel free to add me. I wouldn't mind having some people to dick around in this game with.
