Oh I've done shingle roofs before but never as an actual job. When I worked for a roofing company it was rubber roofing, which is still shitty work but most of the time isn't as bad as shingling.

Most of the time. There were exceptions, like the time I had to carry 6 squares of 060 up a ladder myself, or the building where I had to climb a fully extended 32 footer to tie it off to a vertical ladder bolted to the side of the building, then step from the 32 footer onto that ladder and up another half story to get onto the roof we were replacing.

I mean why even waste the money on a trap at that point. Too bad they don't make 60" lav flexies, probably would have saved him there.

I think the trap represents how we're all destined to face redirection and delay in our goals and sometimes going forward is going to be darker and smell shittier than going backward.

Electrical is easy mode. I'd always recommend a licensed plumber for plumbing and gas work though. You're talking about the health of your family at that point.

If anyone around MA is doing their own shit I'll come out and look at it free, just so you don't kill your family like the guy in Acushnet did yeaterday.
May take you up on it. There are a few upgrades were looking at but don't know any plumbers (or electricians for that matter, but that's another story)

We've got some serious water issues that are more pronounced in the winter

What town are you in. What kind of water problems.
Somerset

I have to make a list. Not sure what falls under plumbing and what falls under something else because in general I'm an idiot.

  1. Downstairs bathroom smells a bit like sewage in the winter, more so if the toilet hasn't been used in awhile. Don't smell it in other seasons.
  2. Really low water pressure, I think our pipes are too small but not sure it it's just our pipes or the supply as well. It's laughably bad in the shower.
  3. Heating the water for a bath or shower is a joke in the winter. I don't know if the water heater is bad, inefficient and what sort of action is the best bang for my buck. For instance I've been thinking about an on demand water heater but not sure that's my best option.

Your toilet can't be the culprit of sewage smell unless 1. there's no water in the bowl, or 2. you forgot to flush after a nasty dump. The only other way is if your wax seal is bad, in which case you would know, because there would be leakage upon flushing.

More likely it's your shower. If you rarely use it the water in the trap will evaporate and then sewage smell can escape. This is especially true in winter with the furnace running and extremely low humidity. Set yourself a weekly reminder to run the shower for 30 seconds. Do that once a week and you'll never have issues with smell from that trap.

Hair. I learned this the hard way being in a house full of women. I have to bleach my drains periodically because the hair collects in the traps, not enough to block the drain but enough to cause a horrifying bacteria colony that emits a smell not unlike raw sewage.

This! I dig in there about once a week and pull out massive chunks of hair and this shower is only used by one.

I live with four women with long hair. I am aware of this, too. It just didn't sound likely in this scenario.

Shower drain hair clumps may be one of the most disgusting things ever.

Couple things.

  1. Its a half bath so no shower
  2. No leakage from toilet
  3. Only I use it (seriously) and I always flush and keep it immaculately clean
  4. Every winter it smells like this
I feel like the cold weather is having an effect. Can that be explained?

It's not hair as I shave my head

Could it possibly be Old Saint Nick taking a dump every winter?

Take a picture of your pipes under your sink and is your house full basement or is it possible your water lines go through a crawl space
