Side of my house has a sunroom (built in the 80s, has a passive solar design) but today I noticed when it was raining water was dripping in at one of the corners. I believe the rubber that’s sealed to the glass panels outside is probably coming loose (see attached image). I’m going to try to get up there and just caulk it but if I can’t, what kind of person / company should I call to do it?

Asking local family and friends for a handy man referral is your best bet. If they don’t have one then you can check NextDoor and see if someone’s advertising themselves.

Get a roofer and make sure he is licensed and insured. When that handyman falls off your roof, he will own you.

Okay, so....bathroom is progressing and I'm wondering...how screwed am I?

I want to water-proof this bath and I, against my better judgement, trusted my dad to make the calls on this mess.

I have a feeling I am screwed on this entire tile job from backerboard to tile I think I'll have to tear out and re-do. I may even post a video detailing this all.

---

Back of the tub before I drywall this all in... (opposite of the drain and shower / tub faucet):

long wall of the tub:

Front of the tub (near the faucet / shower head):

---

Some Answers (that he gave me):

Why not run backboard to the tub lip and then seal around that?

"Because the thinset will make it waterproof"

Why is the gap bigger at the wet wall than the back wall?

"Because the tub is supposed to be at a slope" (The tub basin IS sloped...)

What is with the gaps in general at the tub lip?

"Don't worry about that you'll use caulking to fill it all in"

Questions:

Can I waterproof this AT ALL?

white caulk fill, grout, then color matched caulk to seal it.

I mean, you could just skip the grout if you wanted and just use caulk - there usually is a gap between the bottom of the tile and the tub

This is 100% unacceptable in my world. I would refuse to look at this for 1 hour or 50 years. Ive fired people less.

I have a lot more to say about this but I need a little bit bigger picture of this specific area of the tub. Please post another pic of this gap but wider to see how things layout!

Yeah, I'd be furious with that. To the point of taking it out and redoing it. That's crap. You're going to spend time ripping out and applying new silicone every year to prevent leaking and mildew issues.

But please post a wider angle picture. Maybe we're over reacting.

Good luck getting that through the door.

Had to open the wall. It fit through the front door and up the stairs, but had to open the bathroom wall to get it in there. Not a big deal, a little drywall work in order to never have caulking in the shower? Easy trade off.

but they look so ugly!

But they are easy to clean, never leak, and stay pristine forever. And I don't think they're so ugly.

I'm going to soon to my master bath over. It has a big shower, I'm going to open the wall to get a one piece shower stall in there, too. It's totally worth it. And when you want to resell the place, leave notes that say "this shower/tub/whatever never needs caulking!" and see how popular it is.

Bitches are more aware of caulk issues than you give them credit for.

In all seriousness, if the agent can say "no caulk and no mildew" about all your bathroom fixtures, it helps a lot.

This persists until the first time they live in a bathroom where something leaks and gets moldy and stays that way for a year before you get around to re-grouting and re-caulking, and then when you DO get around to it they can't use the bathroom for 2 days until it cures.

So, going to make a video. Debating if I wanna upload it to youtube as unlisted.

Let me know what I should answer and I'll try to cover it.

---

Honest to god I can't go into that place for long because it pisses me off just how much work my dad did while I was doing new baby things like hospital visits.

That should answer the question if people thought I hired a contractor, I didn't, I was going off my parents suggestion to "Wait til your dad gets here to help" because my dad literally built his own home from the ground up. Because of that fact I figured "Sure, wouldn't hurt!"

If i have to tear this all out, it's not going to cost me much else than time and about 600 USD in materials plus the irritation value of having to do it all again.
