Ok boys. I’m tempted to buy a mower. I have a guy come every month or two and mow all 16 acres but there’s certain parts of my property I’d like to keep mowed every week or two.

now my property isn’t some city slicker well manicured fancy grass shit. It’s got grass, occasional sticks, down branches etc. I know zero about mowers.

What is the absolute limitation of zero turns? Can a commercial grade zero turn for 8k or under ear through brush pretty well?

Really trying to avoid doing an entire tractor rig pulling mower which obviously would decimate grass and all kinds of brush. Don’t wanna drop 30k+ on this.

If you can’t get a kubota tractor just get one of their mowers.

There is a massive variety and cost window for zero turn mowers. Just pick the size and brand and cost you want.

Great I’ll take a look. My stihl dealer I’ve been using for 20+ years is a big Kubota dealer as well.

I just don’t wanna drop big money on a tractor right now.

What’s the best way to find a general contractor who isn’t a complete incompetent piece of shit?

I fired the one I had last year because I was pretty much doing his job checking to see if his workers had gotten work done, how well they did the job etc. I want someone I know has an eye for quality and I’m willing to pay for it.

I need my barn redone… Pretty much needs a new roof and all new frame/trusses, rewire and maybe even expand it in size some.

Last one I got by word of mouth which I rarely do - normally hit up google reviews but for GCs there doesn’t seem to ever be many reviews.

Hypothetically speaking, as long as you go slow and raise the deck as high as possible so you’re less likely to hit something solid like a tree stump or thick root, lawn tractors are sufficient brush hogs. After you hypothetically bust a spindles or two, you hypothetically learn the limitations of what your equipment can and can’t handle. At least this is what a friend of mine told me. Hypothetically.

WTF? You want to mow 16 acres? How much are you paying the current guy?

You don't want a commercial zero turn for more than 5-6 acres; even mowing 3 acres is a few hour job with a 54" Badboy. Any property bigger than that and you need a tractor w a bush hog.

Otherwise let that shit grow into hay and someone will come cut it for free.

Well he said he wanted to just mow a smaller area himself not the whole 16.

Agree pretty retarded to mow 16 even if every few months. What’s the point? Grow something there, plant pine trees to cover it or plant something you can sell.

Ohhh, yeah I missed the "certain parts of the property" comment. Sorry Folger.

In that case get something with an integrated deck. I love our Badboy. It cuts 3 acres rather quickly and smaller stuff in minutes. We have the 54".

Ok it’s got forest on maybe 70% of it. Takes my guy on his zero turn a full day to mow and weed eat it. Paying 650 each time

Maybe I should just pay him to come twice as often and just do a full mow every other time.

You're mowing around the trees?
Weed eat around them.

to clarify. My property consists of thick forest, field, wetlands. The thick forest I only maintain paths through and clean up down trees if they look messy.

OOF!

Let your woods be woods and just mow the 30%? Either way, make sure you get a zero-turn that has a welded deck. Otherwise mowing across roots and other things will ruin your mower before you even put 100 hours on it.

We've been using a Badboy 54" on 3 acres and about 1/2 mile of driveway and it works marvelously. Very happy with it.

Oh ya. It would definitely hit roots. It’s something that would need to take a beating. Having second thoughts on this now 😆

Sounds like typical city people moving to the country to be in nature and then spending thousands of dollars to make it look as much like a golf course as possible.

Keep reading kiddo
I read it and it still doesn’t make sense to me. Clear some walking paths with trimmer, mower, weed killer, let the rest grow. Mowing an entire wooded area is dumb.
