Anything whirlpool gets the highest marks for fridges and longevity. Look into it.

That's funny because my Mom's Whirlpool fridge has been a total pain in the ass. She got it I think in 2015 and paid over $3000 for it. It went to the shop at least twice in the first year and she's had people out to work on it at least 4 times, to the tune of a few hundred dollars each time. It also has the ice maker in the door which sucks. Of course the GE range and microwave that she got at the same time have been in the dump for years so it could be worse. The GE dishwasher is the only thing that keeps on chugging.

My Frigidaire refrigerator I got in 2020 I believe and last spring the ice maker (in the drawer freezer, nothing through the door on mine) quit working. Had a guy come ofut and replace a valve in it for about $400 and it's been good since then.

Currently looking at getting our master bath completely redone, gotten two quotes so far, both in the 50k-ish range, but totally different styles - one does those pre-fabricated walls while the other prefers tile and grout. Any thoughts? I kind of like the concept behind the pre-fab style - seems like it'd be less maintenance, but I think it would likely hurt resale. Also, somewhat leery of the prefab quote claiming they only need 3 days of labor.
We just did a master shower remodel. Took out the shower and jetted tub and made a large walk-in shower. All custom and we came in at $25k all in (labor, tile, hardware, etc).

I highly suggest not using anything pre-fab, especially granite or quartz, it's going to look public bathroom/hotel-ish.

So yeah the wife has gone stupid on "LETS DO THE KITCHEN REMODEL!" like, babe, stop woman-ing.

Anywho - she drew back up our old ikea plans and modified them some - as we wont be buying different appliances now that we bought what we bought.

Also... the Ikea Fridge is 200$ less than what I paid for all of them lol.

anywho

Guy at work who is a home builder over saw while I was talking to my team- he is like "ill give you my kitchen lady" - he looked at what I was designing and was like "She can do all wood boxes and granite tops....ehh about 7.5k" I said "Here is a check." as that's like what the cabinets would cost me and I do all the work lol- we talked through some options and things unique to my kitchen (its not huge, so really thats why) - and he was still like, yeah, 7.5- deff under 10k

So...who knows! No harm in having her come and get me an estimate, if he was way off and she is stupid price, I am just back to doing it myself lol.

For what it's worth I got a Bosch 600 or 900 series dishwasher and the thing is solid as hell. I don't even know it's running too.

Anyone have a good method for hanging Christmas lights outside that doesn’t involve a ladder? We moved to a new house and it’s on a slope with a lot of rocks/gravel in the yard.

Do any of this extension poles work well?

Do you have gutters? If so they can do OK if you just plan to run lights along them.

If not, it's ladder time IMO.

This one was ok. The clips are a little weird, but they work, at least if you're hanging from gutters. If I were going to replace it, I might look for a better option, but I would get this one again if I couldn't find anything that looked better. Seems a little pricy for what it is, but it's gone up since I got it like 3 years ago. Still better than lots of trips up a ladder though.

Hey I’m adding new lights for this years Christmas display and I wanted to put them on the front face of the house, on the stucco in some areas. What can I get to fasten the wires to the exterior stucco wall?

Why do you want to ruin your stucco?

Interesting.. they have this for a little cheaper locally at Lowes. Wonder how well it would work on my shingles, don't have front gutters or eaves to attach to. Watched a couple of YouTube videos and read reviews. They were kind of all over the place. Seemed one of the major sticking points was putting the intermediate clips in place and then grabbing them with the tool when they're already hanging AND/OR struggles with threading the lights if you try to install the intermediate clips from the tool.

No idea about intermediate clips. We attached the lights to the clip, and then used the pole to attach the clip to the gutters. No problem attaching or unattaching. I saw that there are some clips that slide underneath your shingles, but that felt a little sketchy so we stuck to the gutters.

I think puncturing your stucco for anything is a bad idea, especially if you'll be taking it down yearly.

I did use something like this for running my cat6 through my garage to my NVR, worked well, but that's on sheetrock, not sure how these would work on stucco.

I think what they were describing is that if you pre-08attach the clips to the lights then going down the string the clips will be hanging in the air, so they were having to grab the clip that is 8’ off the ground with the end of the pole, and they were having issues lining it up and grabbing the clip while it was hanging in the air. I may give it a shot. Doesn’t seem that bad.

Ah ok, that does sound tricky. The way that particular package works, slotting the clips into the pole while they're free-hang would be very frustrating. However, it does come with a grabby attachment (as opposed to the one that actually clips into the clips) that might work better for that, still sounds like it would be frustrating though.

Our gutter isn't high enough that I needed to pre-add clips that I couldn't reach. Or maybe I was just lazy and was ok with the strands drooping between clips. Probably some of both.

HIGHLY recommend you do not puncture your stucco with anything semi-permanent. The damage to your exterior / interior weather barrier will be permanent. Lots of people don't know/don't want to hear it but truth is , there is a 90% chance there is nothing but Styrofoam behind the thin layer of stucco.

Good lord, drilling and knocking out holes to run my A/C Freon lines.... the stucco was stronger than the cinderblock - late 70's house. - I didnt have a 2-3inch masonry circle, so I used concrete bits to drill a circle of holes then hammer time them... drilling the inside, just cinder block - no prob- nice bits, hammer drill- boom... outside... through the stucco... my lord.

70's era houses don't count, that's real stucco, not the barely there mess they use now. Plus you have that good old lead paint to hold the walls up.

lol yeah, i am lucky as i dont have any lead paint or popcorn as it was 77 i think - but still has the better aspects of building - plank wood roof vs plywood, cinder block etc. - bad aspects its just block, ferring strip then drywall for external walls lol no insulation.
