Can't tell if serious. Hard to imagine than anyone, with the years of experience on the internet that the people on this forum have, would think that that is the reason, but never the less, the main threat is a backdoor into your network to use it in a botnet by the CCP cyberwarfare division (or criminal enterprises, if discovered by black hats). To a lesser extent, there is always the data harvesting of being able to monitor your network for whatever purpose, but people who use smart home bullshit without having it isolated are subject to that from all-of-the-things already.

Know what how i might try to seal up my roofline. wifes coworkers think the metal was cut a hair short. Got screws coming up from the thin board in a few places where it's starting to rot. Has a thin paper like cover over the board. Longer screws gets it down into some other roofing, but probably going to be ongoing issues.

But if i seal it not sure if that's trapping too much moisture.

You would have to remove the bottom row of screws and bend an “L” piece of aluminum to act as a drip edge and protect the edge of the plywood when you slide it under the metal. Then you’d have to put an “inside closure” that’s made for the ribs of your particular metal roof profile. Or you could use an Ultra Vent product like in the AB Martin link.

Either way you’d have to take the bottom screws out, slip the “L” metal under, slip in the closure product you want to use, and then re-screw back the bottom edge through both. If you don’t want to rent an aluminum break and custom bend the metal you can probably get away with buying a C5.5 drip edge and using that. It’s commonly used for rubber roofing around my area. You’ll probably have to cut out the metal around your gutter fasteners. I would probably recommend buying new screws, depending on the age of the roof, so that the neoprene gaskets on the screws that keep the water out are fresh and not all dry rotted and cracked.

Is there not a layer of rubber directly below the metal? Did they do a decking layer over an old layer? Aka 2 layers of board on the roof? Seems odd.

Where I live you are allowed 2 layers of roofing by code - some even do 3 because by then most inspectors are gonna look at the shingles on shingles and be like "how many layers is that" and they will just be like "2 bro"

Now, there are very few roofing companies that will actually do a layer of new shingles over an existing one - you most likely have to waive all your warranty.

I was wanting to do metal over my shingles with 1x3 strips for the anchor screws - I do not have a very complex roof - but... yeah.. do not know if I am really "ready" to take that step in self diy home improvement.

Wife woke me up last night, said she smelled something burning in the kitchen. Turns out it was the dishwasher. I assumed something plastic fell down onto the heating element, but nothing. Not really interested in tearing the thing apart, any other simple things to check? It doesn't seem to be the drain pump - I was able to cancel the cycle and let it mostly drain, but shut it off relatively quickly out of paranoia.

Also, sucks, was going to buy from Costco, but apparently they have to bring it up to code, which means I'd have to rewire the circuit to add a disconnect and protect with a GFCI. I can do it myself, but it'll kill the warranty, which would be the whole point of Costco in the first place.

What do you suggest instead? I've never had a problem with Costco appliances. I've gotten a half dozen from them, usually on clearance. It always seemed like all the places pretty much just drop shipped their stuff from a central warehouse somewhere, so, it didn't really matter.

I do kind of agree with the installation in this case - it's a bit more involved than just threading on a couple connectors (that I can just double check tightness after they leave on), that's mostly my apprehension.

I'm 99% certain it's the board now. I haven't torn it up yet, but the smell is absolutely coming from the door and smells like cooked electronics. Replacement of that is $200 for a shit Whirlpool builder's special dishwasher that costs $400, so, definitely looks like I'll be getting a replacement somewhere.

Damn I'm dealing with a combination of shit I can't control and my own laziness combining into a monumental crapfest....

I have a shower that I redid around a decade ago. Did it in travertine, and I love it. Problem is I was lazy and didn't take the time to properly reseal the stone every 4 years or so. Now some water has caused what some call "red mold" around the bottom edge of the shower (it's actually a bacteria, but that's another story). And the hard ass water here in Dallas has calcified over it. So I'm manually using a scraper to get the lime crust off the bottom 2" of stone tile before I can start to remove/repair damaged grout and reseal.

This was not how I really wanted to spend a weekend. heh

I ended up ordering a used board from fleabay for 20 bucks. I'll be giving that a shot first. Reviewing all the reviews for new dishwashers, it seems like everything made these days is complete shit. Even the Bosch ones had a recent redesign that killed their reliability. I'd rather deal with a board failure than water leaks.

I have a KitchenAid dishwasher. Bought it in 2020 and have had to replace the control unit and water pump in 2023. Not to hard to do really just shouldn't have to do it after 3 years.

Repairclinic.com is a great place for parts and repair videos.

An “issue” with Costco and Sam’s Club appliances is they are “special versions” for them and can be difficult to determine replacement parts as they are not the common sku and part numbers even.

But thats just my 2c - I got a dryer for like 150 on clearance display - display model are great they are not used..maybe door hinge and lock lol.

All this dishwasher talk and ours fritzed out last night. I swear to my wife I started it before bed, but then she had to restart it this morning. Texted her while she was at the office a big TOLD YOU SO! when it didn’t work once again. Was finally thinking it was time to replace this broken down tub.

Nope… opened it up and a kid sippy cup straw was stuck in the float valve thing preventing it from filling with water. Slipped it out, quick cycle, works fine. Guess it saved us some $$$.
