I’m one of those boring 2hr here and there guys now…

barely out in the open world. Playing on hard seems remarkably easier than the first game so far? Even with blatant pew pew pew bow only zero strategy other than…dodge

So as developers go they were not pants on head, and actually kept shit that worked in the first one, if not all of it, and just made small tweaks to make it better. This is a good thing, and not every game needs some new try-hard thing that actually just sucks to be great. Good on them!
New skill trees are fucking sick. Melee combos and awesome skill trees are definitely good additions to the game. Doesn't feel try-hardy though the Valor ultimate skills do get a little close to try-hard status.

Yes, I bought this on PS5.

Making myself play it on Very Hard so I'll get over my aversion to controllers.

Using the gyro aiming option (turn down the default gyro aiming sensitivity) to fine-tune your shots is actually really useful.

FYI this plays just fine (so far) on the 1st generation PS4 (non-slim/non-pro). It's not a PC game sure but it scratches the itch. If this takes 3+ years to come out on PC again, I'll have forgotten the story and can pick it up again with any DLC for a replay.

I don't use consoles enough to justify the in$anity of trying to get a PS5 in this current mess.
I'm also telling my 2080ti daily how he's a good boy hoping it lasts at least another year for the same reason....

So 25 hours in, just left No Man's Land at level 22.

I pretty much did all the POI on the map in No Man's Land, except those that required tools I don't have yet. Did all the side quest I found. This is such a small part of the part of the map though. Unless the other areas are empty, I'm looking at over 100 hours I think.

I'm enjoying the story so far, it's more interesting than I expected and I'm curious about a few things they've introduced which I thought were pretty cool. The side quest are pretty good so far, there's not a lot of them but they seem to have gone for quality over quantity.

Fun times. :)

I am a bit annoyed at how often I seem to need to plug my PS5 controller back in to get more juice. I thought it was because I was using headphones plugged into the controller, but now I'm just playing the sound through the normal speakers and its still running low after only a few hours.

Yeah I always have two controllers one charging at all times. Haptic feedback can take its toll.

Wife is playing this as we speak. Gameplay seems rock solid and not as gimicky in some parts as the first. Biggest issue she has is the visuals. Anything involving the open world where you don't have to see Ralph the Malph in Drag version of alloy is excellent and what you expect from a PS5 title. The issue is with anything involving animations on the human characters. They all have very limited animation loops and next to no facial expressions. I am guessing they relied on animation algos and not mo-cap, because the issue is worse in cut-scenes with the jarring deadface elon musk characters. Chunky Alloy seems to have to expressions: Monobrow ginger tranny and scrunchy eyebrow diarrhea accident just happened. Combined with the generally lifeless and highly recycled character animation loops, it is resulting in a huge uncanny valley effect for the wife (her words) and now that she has pointed it out, I can't unsee it myself. There are also odd issues with textures loading in and occasional incomplete renders in prestaged cutscenes as early as the intro tutorial parts. And there is clipping all over the place (the sun people generals magic sleaves that are apparently stapled to his lower wrists was the most jarring example of this), even in cutscenes.

I think they got lazy or cheaped out on the model animations for human characters, possibly due to time crunch, because the new critters are all very well animated (even the early snake boss avoided most of the clipping issues). But again, away from humans and cutscenes the games visuals are amazing. Its just a shame that the animations on Demons Souls from over a decade ago are better for human models. God of War in some ways was much better on a lot of graphical fronts, too. Combat looks as good as the first, about same difficulty but a few more wrinkles in melee. Voice acting is pretty solid and the writing is as decent as you are going to get when there are wokesters working on a game. Its just the odd Zuckerbergesque animation on the people that is glaringly bad, to the point where my wife is constantly bitching about it (and being a ginger, Stewie Griffon head Alloy is not going well with her either).

I have issues with the Sky Clan and their lack of anything resembling winter weather gear... Motherfuckers are nearly barefoot and shirtless wandering out in a goddamn blizzard.

Anyone think the enemies are way too bulletspongy on Very Hard? Thinking about doing custom difficulty and just turning down the enemy health to Hard.

Having to shoot a Widemaw in it's tusk 12 times just to get the tusk to fall off so I could upgrade my bow was more than a little frustrating. :)

I've played like 14 hours and barely progressed the plot at all since leaving the Daunt, just trying to craft weapons that do actual damage.

Another issue with enemy health on Very Hard is that you literally can't do the Silent Strike and Gliding Strike trial because even with full skills you can't oneshot the robots in the trial with stealth attacks.

Does this game only have one background music track, or is my game bugged? The first 30 minutes of it was cool, but the latter 10 hours of it are wearing on me.

Is this anyone else's experience, or is my game bugged? A single BGM track wouldn't normally be an issue, but they seemed to have chosen a more "actiony/suspenseful" track, and I'm wondering wtf.

Not sure on that it seems to be by area. I haven’t had any issues. Try clearing your cache in the system menu and if that doesn’t work rebuild your database I bet that fixes it.

Game is great and I keep just going off the beaten track. Seems like Aloy is a condescending asshole and bi-polar though and it’s wearing thin. In one sentence “oh no no don’t say I’m the savior of meridian”, next minute some tough hombre comes in and she gets all huffy puffy. Some last Jedi type shit happening in areas where males are acting like idiots.

Shit, for some reason I thought this was coming to PC as well.

I mean it most likely will. I beat this back on PS4's original release, and just did it again last month on PC. If you aren't in a rush to check it out, it's always better to wait for the inevitable PC version that will have all the DLCs attached.
