I was playing/judging Pro Tours in MTG when the first one came out. I took 12 years off from MTG and started playing again last year. So maybe my play level will get me back on the Pro Tour by the time this comes out...

Nah

But I will still see this in theater.

And i thought the reason will smith isn't there, was because he said something like "huh....yes , I'll make the sequel but i want my son in the movie too"

Looks like it could be cool. I do like the idea of them basically reverse engineering all the alien tech.

edit: I was over at ew.com and they linked a website setup for the movie

War of 1996 | Independence Day: Resurgence

Looks like Will Smith's character was killed while test piloting some reverse engineered alien tech ;p

he also supposedly wanted $50m up front to do ID2 & 3 plus the usual back end money

I wonder if they still went on with the plan to film ID2 & 3 back to back, probably not?

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. Really like the reverse engineering of alien tech with current tech, it actually makes sense. Kind of a bummer Will Smith won't be in the movie at all, if anything just have him be a general or in some sort of leadership role and let the younger actors handle the action scenes. Going to miss the interactions between him and Jeff Goldblum.

Will and his spawn not being in this, gives it room to be good.

Cautiously optimistic as well.

That looked streets ahead of the Supes Batham trailer. Hell I even got some goosebumps. I think I need to check into cheesy 90's rehab though.

I'm exited. I loved the first one. This looks very interesting. Curious who is attacking them. Since iirc in the first one didn't they say it was their "Entire civilization" flying around in that huge mother-ship from planet to planet.

I'm not sure about this. It might surprise but part of the uhh 'charm' of the original was the scrappy problem solving and hokey Windows compatibility of an alien species. I can't think of a recent blockbuster-only sci-fi movie that didn't make it unwatchable by trying to be too smart.
