So the talking heads are back with the fed pivot, not trusting the fed and their hawkish tone, the bounce today at support with buyers coming in looks like another squeeze is here, already.

Bears will double down, blow up their accounts, again and maybe some time down the road we can visit the lows of the year but it's not looking like Friday is that day.
So the opposite of this.

My take was, SPY 401.50 is a solid pivot. Would have been surprised to break through that today. Once it failed that, would have been pulling back anyway, but market was blindsided by the news of Russia's gas pipepline being kept offline. It was off for maintenance and was told yesterday it would be restored Saturday as planned. Then today, mysteriously found some oil leak and Russia says it will be off indefinitely. It has been long talked about Russia using its gas supply as a political weapon. Germany is kind of fucked with this and mainland Europe will also feel the effect.

Summer coming to an end as well means the situation gets more dire as cooler weather sets in. (I talked about this very topic just days ago in this thread)

12:22 [GAZP.RU] Transport of gas to the Nord Stream pipeline has been completely halted after oil leakage was detected during routine maintenance works; No timeframe for restart of gas supply through the pipeline - Gazprom statement

- During routine maintenance works oil leakage was detected
- Transport to pipeline to remain halted until faults are rectified
- Gas turbine cannot operate safely due to the damage
- Siemens Energy notes engine oil leaks can only be fixed in specialized workshop

Reminder earlier: Nord Steam said to restart gas flows on Sat as planned, following maintenance - press - Source TradeTheNews.com

I knew it was being closed yesterday, would have to dig up where I read it. I don't believe this was news today, it was known. If I recall the German govt made a statement expecting this and spoke about it this week saying they already have 80% of the needed gas and are well ahead of normal storage rates. It's a big deal but be careful with the bear porn predictions being peddles all over trying to make it sound even more dire than it "currently" is.

Obviously I saw this coming and it had jack to do with a pipeline. Writing was on the wall, the setup was there and was a probable outcome. News items are just excuses.

I think you are talking about the planned halt from Aug 31st-Sept 2nd for maintenance (this isnt the first). It has been speculated for Russia to not resume gas flow as a political bargaining chip. Germany / Europe have been expecting the pipeline cutoff for months and taking measures. Yesterday was the announcement it would be back operational as planned Saturday, then today this mystery oil leak and Russia saying "no timeframe to restore".

15:17 [SIE.DE] Spokesperson: As a manufacturer of Nord Stream 1 turbines, we can only state that such a finding of 'oil leak' does not constitute a technical reason for stopping operations
- It is a routine procedure to seal such leaks on site; It is a routine procedure within the scope of maintenance work that has not led to a shutdown of operations in the past
- Siemens Energy is not contracted to carry out maintenance work at the site but is on standby
- Regardless of the status of this turbine, believe there are enough turbines available at the Portovaya compressor station for Nord Stream 1 to operate

Looking to buy back my 295 QQQ puts that expire today for a few pennies. Don't think I'm going to roll them and sell new ones today. Missed some trades yesterday wanting to add some more premium because of some chickens needing attention. Little freaking baby chickens probably cost me $3k yesterday in a missed trade. However the time spent with the chickens was certainly more enjoyable than spending more time at desk.

We keep layers and I'll just go grab new pullets when one dies / stops laying - but funny thing. My neighbor keeps about 20 chickens. Every couple years he goes and grabs a couple rooster and puts them in with them and chills for a couple months until he has like 40 chicks then he kills the rooster. He does zero tending and the chicks that make it make it. He culls the young males when they start showing and once the chicks start laying he starts culling the older hens. It's a great no fuss strategy to replace your own flock with very little fuss. I'd do it if I wanted a larger flock.

Lol, Russia is just fucking around and Germans are taking it like they are serious. That’s so typically german it’s painful.

So drop my 100k in spy and qqq now huh? If I do this from fidelity, do you get dividends from these broad portfolios, and if so, is reinvestment automatic or something I have to set up.

Though bet the money doesn't show up until next week into my account
Double check for sure on dividends it’s most likely an option that defaults to pay out.

If you want dividend reinvestment, then use an alternatove to SPY (like IVV). SPY wasnt designed with dividend reinvestment so it isnt capable of it. IVV is. Reinvestment is not automatic, you turn it on in account management on a per investment basis.

Yes, most of the broad index ETFs pay dividends though technically what is happening is the stocks the ETF owns pays the dividends and you get the pass through. There are low beta/high divend ETFs specifically built as dividend payers (like JEPI and HDV).

And dumbing down for a set and forget, is it worth messing with IVV vs just giving up the reinvestment and sticking to SPY/QQQ or what would be the 2 you pick if I want to put it in and check it once a year for 30 years.

IVV is identical to SPY. Just a different investment company product. Dump it into IVV on dividend reinvestment and don't look at it again until you retire. QQQ is the Nasdaq 100, SPY/IVV is the S&P500. Honestly just buy the IVV and let it run. You could split a percentage into QQQ but over a few decades I doubt it would make a noticeable difference. The top 5 or 6 largest holdings are the same in both QQQ and SPY/IVV. Differences are no financials in QQQ so no JPM and no BRK.
