I have been long oil for a very long time. I have XOM (used to be XoN) shares since about 1990 and still have them. It's not a giant part of my stuff but I've held some for a long time. It's something I have and have had for a long time. Mineral rights have worked out much better but requires a lot more investigation and work compared to just investing in a stock/etf and such.

He failed to realize we live in a memeconomy now. Also kind of puzzling given how IIRC his fund was nearly done in by shenanigans keeping MBS afloat in 2008 before the crash, and the regime has had over a decade to figure out how to fuck over people betting against them even harder since then.

It did dip about 8% after he made that tweet in March of 2023 and then we were back to the same levels in October of 2023, just for a bit of context to a one word tweet that was sent almost two years ago.

I actually really like them. I recently switch a bunch of stuff over to SoFi. Trying to decide between them and the fidelity CMA or whatever it's called as my new long term banking.
