"transitory"

My cousin works at the local RAM dealership in town and I can get more for my 1500 Laramie now than when I bought it in 2019. And I drive a good bit.

I can pay $5,000 today and have the same payment on a 2021.

"transitory"

I don't know why they deflect with transitory like it makes it better. If something increases 50%, but it's a one time deal, that's transitory. It doesn't have to go back down though.

Say a pound of ground beef was $3, and it goes up to $4.50/lb in 2021...and then stays at $4.50/lb, that's "transitory." It's not somehow better. It just means it's not increasing that much every year. So uh, great?

That's not transitory.

Though I don't agree with them that this is just short term.

Even if transitory, on things like a car that really doesn't apply unless you buy a new one every 3 months.

yes it is. Not going to argue semantics but the for purposes of the relevant discussion that is exactly what the Fed means by "transitory". They certainly have no expectations of prices reverting lower, they expect the rate of inflation to revert lower. How can you not know this?

Hey it's not my fault the Fed makes up their own definitions for words!

You are plenty smart enough to follow along. Transitory means not permanent. They didn't call the price increases transitory they called the higher inflation rate transitory.

I wasn't saying "Hey Gravel, learn what that word means". I was saying "Yea, transitory, convenient for the Fed because they are using that word incorrectly and by that logic technically all Inflation is transitory"

I was agreeing with him but didn't qualify properly

They never said inflation is transitory they said the RATE of inflation would be, not sure why you keep conflating those as being the same. I'm not a fan of this any more than anyone else and for almost all American's fed induced inflation is THEFT of people's past labors. Regardless if it's a one time bump or not they are still stealing from every person who has worked to save part of their past efforts in the form of the US Dollar.

Just pointless to have post after post of "Fed said there is no inflation! etc." when that's not all what they said and there is still every reason to hate on what they are doing.

I was actually wondering what you meant since you didn't explain. Thanks for clarifying.
