Hey computer bros I got an email from a school/program involving IT training and placement.

Anyone with an opinion on this if it's legit?

Link: VA Program - Computer Training in Detroit Michigan area

Site and stuff seems really cheap but if it were real sounds like a good program just need someone with any knowledge of the field and an eye for bullshit.

The email with the link came from a .gov domain.

Thanks in advance

I'm not saying they're out to steal your kidneys and leave you in a bathtub, but I wouldn't go for it. I'm sure there are better options out there than that.
Looks like an ITT Tech derivative. If you need "something" to get a foot in the door it's not the worst place to start. That said, you're almost better off self-studying, learning, and getting certs instead. Likely cheaper too.

What's your end goal? Are you trying to shift into IT/something else?

I'm more of a traditional kind of guy (go to school yay), but some people have had success seeking out certs and going to coding bootcamps.

The veterans part seems to be nothing more than targeted advertising. It looks like a run of the mill IT classroom that probably no one will care about on a resume unless it is mega entry level.

Seems like another scam from a for-profit company to get sweet sweet VA Bill money.

I don't know about scam but often times the piece of paper you get from these places is better served remaining a tree. Trying to get that sweet endless supply of fat government money is just good business.

Cousin just got a degree from one of these for-profit degree mills.

It takes all my effort to not openly mock her on facebook. She actually thinks it will help her.

*shrug* I've worked with a few DeVry/ITT people here. I'm sure the bullet point was instrumental in them actually getting in the door. I can't really say much because my 4 year degree is actually IT because I didn't know the difference between CS and IT when I actually applied. I just told them I want to be a programmer.

It's alright I did computer engineering because I wanted to be a programmer. It all worked out but I didn't know there would be so much electrical engineering

Updated my resume and started sending it out. Applied to a few places, not sure they'll call me back, and also got in touch with a recruiter since I'm still working. Definitely didn't want to look so soon but I'm fairly miserable (I know I whine)

Specifically not looking in Boston although if a certain big company were to call I'd do it.

Is VMware hiring Vinen?

Thanks for the feedback that's the same vibe I got, just a shitty itt tech type deal with an army dude painted on it

Went to a regional(I guess) conference this weekend, PyGotham. Nothing but machine learning talks with zero math, so sad and boring and useless. Most other talks covered such basic stuff it was ridiculous. Are smaller conferences always this terrible? Also you software development types need to learn some math if you are going to be learning about machine learning. People were confused by expected values and shit, very lame.

Is PyGotham a python conference first and foremost? That might be why.

I took a lot of math in school but I forget most of it because I've never used it. I just use a calculator for hex math and that's it
