Also, as someone who was a freshman in high school when Nevermind came out, you have to look at it in the context that it was replacing THIS:
Eddie Van Halenisa musical genius, though.

I really want that fashion to come back.

Fuck early and mid 80's fashion... but late 80's and early 90's fashion will never be beaten. Might as well stop the entire fashion machine. We've figgured it out.

Point of fact, he did, thanks to Love pulling a full on Yoko Ono.

But Grohl has done amazing things with several bands (Queens of the Stone age best album was with him as the drummer) and with differing styles. Nirvana was good, but other grunge bands from that era were better (Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Alice in Chains) with music that stands up more years later. I can't remember the last time I heard Smells Like Teen Spirit on the radio, but I hear Even Flow, Jeremy, Black Hole Sun, Man in the Box, Heaven Beside You, and so on all the damn time.
pearl jam is and was always shit.
Sound garden and alice in chains are great.

But as noted, you are using radio as example? Nirvana as a band was always anti-production. its kindof a "no shit" their work is less radio friendly.
Like, I even noted. I was not a Nirvana fan until I heard unplugged. Teen Spirit which was their "big song", is not very good. and even back then, I dismissed them because of it.

Jerle was a shit poster but it does indeed suck to see someone, especially from this communty, with obvious mental trouble take their own life. Sucks :/

Also anyone saying Nirvana is overrated can eat dick. I honestly thought the same thing until about 2 years ago when I gave everything that wasn't Nevermind a listen. Amazing.

Pearl Jam is still putting out solid albums, but your opinion is noted. I would add that the Nirvana Unplugged album was the worst of the four grunge bands mentioned (Alice in Chains Unplugged is to my mind the best Unplugged album of all time) and that Pearl Jam was even more anti production than Nirvana. In Utero was the best that Nirvana ever got, but it was very dark and emo, even by grunge standards. I think aside from the Sheep album, every album Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, and Alice In Chains ever put out (including the newer material) has been good to great. I can't even stand to listen to any Nirvana album anymore.

Not sure why I even got sucked into this debate, as I am more of a british invasion and prog guy, anyhow. Its more interesting than talking about Trannycide, I guess.....

I didn't think a thread about suicide could get more depressing, but then out came Limp Bizkit.

It's sad to see Jerle committed suicide, especially after the"On a Boat"episode amongst others. A lot of us had come to the conclusion that Jerle was just a drama whore and would never go through with killing himself.

Also, a pic from the wayback machine that's been posted before. Too soon?

I never liked Limp Bizkit but I sure did listen to that Korn album a fuckload of times. I also only liked a few Nirvana songs and never bought their albums. I really liked Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam though. Vs. is still my favorite Pearl Jam album.

Yeah, I hear Nirvana songs on the radio all the time here, but not Teen Spirit. Which is fine by me.

From what I understand Grohl wasn't really a creative driver in the group until the very end. He wasn't around for Bleach or Nevermind, and he gave pretty limited input on In Utero because he had "new guy" syndrome. The stuff they were working on as a followup he was supposedly more involved with creatively. Which is not to say Foo Fighters aren't great or that he isn't, but he wasn't the talent behind the actual songs in that band.

Personally I still love them, but I realize it may be mostly nostalgia. Their Unplugged album was the best one in my mind.

In her suicide note, Kate von Roeder did not mention any particular discrimination, but mentioned struggles in making and keeping friends.
I think this is the most important part here that most people on this forum would understand and most people who want to look on from afar don't get, Jerle very well may have had issues due to the gender stuff, but LONG before that was even a thing dude couldn't make any friends because he was a wholly unlikeable person. I don't doubt that there was discrimination at times for that stuff, but the social issues extended way beyond it. Pretty sure most of us already know it, but it's interesting to read those articles and see how the perspective changes the tone a lot.
