We will see how many changes they made - haven’t gotten into it yet.

But its all based off of the PSX versions - as said and redubbed -

Got through the main intro and just got to the first port. Like 10-15min of grinding really helps take out the frustration I remember on start being rough.

The new dub is nice, I noticed they got the voices lined up way better to the animated mouth talking. I dont know if it’s just better VA beats to line up, or if they redid some of the mouth animation when they redid the animations. I dont think the latter, Quark’s first speech seemed a little rushed on the VA that one part. But still good.

I still think Luna /singing/ seems too old. But the VAs are way way better in just sounding “professional” - if I recall correctly the original WD people, Alex and Luna were young and either new to VA or even haven’t done it before.

The jokes are still there.. “this chicken is so annoying…. I just want to choke it”

Just got to the Magic Emperor reveal part. Not grinding at all. With the non WD difficultly spike the game seems really balanced just going through the areas without grinding. The speeding up the battles is REALLY nice feature, makes the slow dungeon areas a lot faster.

I still found the sewer boss “hard”er than just casually going at it- but that was me being beat up and not healing before or having any mana on Alex.. oh well.. didnt take long to back track. And remembering my way back play, that was the only place in the PSX spot I had remembered issues.

I script seems… polished, but I nothing hits me so far as obviously changed- the PSP version felt very changed / different.

So far it has kept the “crude 90s chauvinistic” little barbs and hits - but overall seems to work better.

As a kid I always just pushed through A to B to C, this time, like my playthrough of the FF pixel remasters I am talking to everyone wondering around more etc.

This is much like those remasters- its meant to present us the games as they were but “properly” displayed on HD stuff.

I played this on SegaCD when it first came out and was amazed by it. Been playing the remaster, and I seriously don't remember the sewer boss hitting that hard lol. I fixed my formation and got it the 2nd time. So far so good! It's a simple jRPG but hits all the right spots for me.

Yeah this is the PSX version, they upped the difficulty from the original - because, reasons? American rpg translators were still upset at square calling FF2 - FF4 “USA eZ mOdE version for weak Americans!” Or something lol

I believe the PSP version had its difficulty put in line with the segaCD, this one seems the same as PSX in “muh feelz” but I have no real frame of reference than 25yr old memories.

One change… I dont hear the CD rom spinning up every time a cut scene or voice acting part is coming up… it hits different lolol

This is not the PSX version. You had to grind a ton, never had enough money for new gear in that one until grinding. That is isn’t the case in this version.

I am like "I really never remember grinding in the PSX version except at the start and the sewer" - but as I play through more... I recall that I do not remember much about the game in its linear order - I thought the fake dragon master was later, I also thought it was the same town as the one that had silly town music - but it was the town that had a singer that sang a silly la la la song... so yeah my old memories are not withstanding. I do recall that I hated the part that I just go to, the thieves guild - it is like a very annoying big speed bump when the "real" story just kicks off... also... why are they still abducting singers when they know they have the one they want with Luna? of well, maybe they will explain it- I really did forget a lot of the details. Trying to recall Lunar 2, its like... pink cat, big tank thing, girl from earth, and general thematic stuff like the is unaware of things and then comes to human understanding of things while the guy main character is confused adapting to each - as shown by the 2 hot springs happenings lol - also I never finished that one, as I was not powerful enough at the end and the grinding option at the point locked you into the tower, so...

Well this sucks, just finished the black dragon in Lunar 1. And now all my items disappeared. So cant fast travel anymore and the playthrough is basically broken. Can't find much about this online if there is a fix or not.

*edit*

Found the fix. Switch the item management to Classic ran around for a bit, and then switched it back to remastered and my items came back.

That’s an odd bug. Glad there is a fix trick thx

Got to blue dragon temple- thats the town I remember with the silly music. My goldfish memory conflated it with the fake Dragonmaster lol town and events.

Anyone play SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered that just got shadowdropped? Or the PS1 version?

SaGa Frontier was one of my favorite PS1 RPGs as a kid, and I think I had SaGa Frontier 2 at one point, but I lost interest in PS1 RPGs with new systems out and sold it before I actually played it. IIRC it came along really late in the PS1 lifespan, like Dragon Quest 7. So I never got to see what the sequel was like.

Finished the first Lunar remake.

I forgot how un telegraphed the point of no return is.. kinda bummed i dont have a save for it.

The end still hits and hits with the - want more, but not. Like a good TV series etc does.

I haven’t finished the Meribia Finnish up and hit the actual end, but will later.

I dont know how licensing and rights work for these things… but.. here are some specific changes I question, ponder and do not like

music… PSX version is superior even - the new stuff does not hit the soul in a few key parts that really imo let me down.

Sad Piano - bad

Grindery - bad… lost that metal synthy 90s that put it on par with the magitek facility for mood setting.

Voice Acting - i still keep with that Alex and Luna were great in PSX version bc of their young and inexperience.

The others.. ehh they dont hit the memberberries- Nall is good but now he blends in so..

Harmony added / changed the fairies in the garden To being saved from the vile tribe killing them- from being enslaved / captured. I like that- it made the cast think more and continue the struggle of how bad was is the magic emperor etc

Harmony also added or returned (forgot) - the ending walk up to Luna, where she would kill Alex and game over if you did not play the ocarina - I dont see how you do not keep that as the standard to have in, it works so well. In this it just plays the music and you go… Luna just “stops” being evil from one cut to the next…

I am glad they kept all the snark, potty humor and 90s sexy anime lady stuff.. we are all sad it was only box art of evil lunas butt as she summoned the goddes tower and not in the cutscene… or did they cut that? Lol

Over all- its now a mixed bag for “best” for me still… I enjoy the “better” translation of harmony’s boat song, but the “bad” translation version in remaster and PSX is, objectively better.
